Horrible company for cat insurance
Horrible company for cat insurance. First time I went to the vet to bring my cat, who was a stray, they told me that all her conditions were pre-existing because I can’t prove they weren’t with a previous vet record. How could I have a record for an adopted pet who was living in a bush. Basic message was, only take in cats that were bread, BEWARE OF STRAYS or SHELTER CATS. Beware of the fine print and all the exclusions. I was shocked to find that they refuse coverage for so many random reasons. They will kill you with kindness to get you signed up, but then you get the sharks once it’s time to see the vet and submit a claim. Pretty much assume you will be denied. I’d assume they are good if you never need to submit a claim for cats, but if you do they won’t pay. Plus, the customer service is terrible. When I went to cancel and express my concerns, the cancellation agent said “you are unproductive and need to spend more time reading the entire contract.” I was taken aback because I just found out my pet had a medical issue and the insurance denied the claim so I was naturally upset. Tristan, the agent, is a horrible person. I asked if they could refund my premiums for the past 4 months since they refuse to cover anything. He told me they are regulated by the American Pet Insurance Company (APIC) and APIC says they can not provide refunds. So I called APIC and asked if this is true and they said “we have never heard of this.” Tristan is an interesting choice for customer service. Overall, maybe good for dogs (I can’t speak on this), but don’t buy for cats. There are better options I’m sure. But probably better off just paying out of pocket.

I got Spot Insurance because it had the best coverage for a great price. I have not had a problem with a claim. I have filed two and both were handled quickly and efficiently. Great company.

A Partner You Can Trust
This review is specifically for setting up a new policy which is quick and easy. You can choose your deductible and copay amounts to adjust the premium so it fits your budget and needs. That's great but what really matters is when something happens to your best friend, fur baby, or as some folks refer to them, your pet. Will the insurance really pay out when you need it? Well, this is our third doggie that had been insured with Prudent Pet and we wouldn't have renewed and insured additional pets with them if not. Our puppies big brother is also insured with Prudent Pet and he just suffered an infected cheek after jabbing himself in the woods with something or maybe being bitten. I submitted the claim last night 12/19/2024 with the receipts from the vet and an explanation of what happened. The claim was settled in full today 12/20/2024 and we will likely see the reimbursement before Christmas, based on our previous experiences. Was everything covered? Almost. There was $1.25 vet fee they disallowed and we paid our 10% co-pay but other than the $1.25 they covered 90% of the vet bill, reimbursing us over $275. They've covered TPLO surgeries for another one of our pups and we have never waited more than two business days for a claim to be processed and have always been reimbursed in less than a week. If you you have been considering pet insurance and were worried about finding a trustworthy company, you can stop looking because Prudent Pet is a partner you can trust.
