Lifelong Coverage of Chronic Diseases and Breed-Specific Conditions
When I got my two Cavaliers as puppies, I researched pet insurance companies. I decided on Trupanion because they offered the best coverage, and especially because Trupanion covers BREED SPECIFIC CONDITIONS! This is amazing, as many of the pet insurance companies won't cover any problem that is breed specific. Trupanion also offers different levels of deductibles (I chose the $1,000 deductible). And boy, and I glad I have my boy Milo and my girl Bianca covered (they're now six years old) -- because while Milo hasn't had a problem in his life (knock wood), Bianca is a Very Special Episode of Cavalier Spaniel. When Bianca was two, she managed to injure her back, for which she had hydrotherapy, accupuncture, massage, and chiropractic; she still gets accupuncture and chiropractic for that injury -- which Trupanion still covers. I couldn't possibly have afforded treatment such as the hydrotherapy and on-going chiropractic without Trupanion's help. When she was four, suddenly she wouldn't eat or drink. Blood testing revealed she has Addison's Disease, which requires lifelong treatment -- which Trupanion is covering. Lifelong. In addition to excellent coverage, Trupanion's employees are friendly, knowledgeable, and sound as if they actually care about my dogs. It's such a relief knowing Trupanion always has my back when the vet bills come in. And to know that if my Cavaliers develop MVD (Mitral Valve Disease; considered a breed-specific condition in Cavalier King Charles Spaniels) Trupanion will cover their treatment. I highly recommend Trupanion!

I should have kept my money
Trupanion works to "interpret" bills so they don't have to cover what they don't want to, despite what our dogs veterinarian said was necessary treatment for his injury. They artfully justified paying less than 20% of what the procedures cost when my dog was injured. We would've been much better off just keeping they money we paid them in our bank account, and using that to take care of our dogs. To add insult to injury, when I called to cancel they kept me on the line for another 15 minutes trying to sell me on buying additional services from them and raising my deductible with them to lower the monthly cost. I kept repeating that I just wanted to close my account and the customer service rep insisted that she needed to keep reading the sales script before she could help me.

Dogs with major med issues
Jamie last year was going through terrible cancer treatment and immediately before that he had laryngeal paralysis surgery, so in a 1 yr period he cost over $46000 , not at any point did Trupanion refuse, Sadly we lost him on Oct 30th 2020. Katie his sister was found to have cancer in Jan 2021 , a different type but more advanced . She went for CT and then x rays every month , again Trupanion was there , I have heard people say , I will save the payment , well that will never cover the enormous vet bills to try and save a life . I still have 3 dogs insured with Trupanion and as I run a dog rescue , I tell every adopter they need to insure and what I have had in costs and what Trupanion has done for my furry children. I highly recommend Trupanion , the very best pet insurance you can get .

BEWARE French Bulldogs, Pugs, Boxer ETC. DO NOT USE TRUPANION. Use tactics to pay you less, read below. DO NOT USE TRUPANION
Beware, do not waste your money with Trupaion. First- I have a 2 year old French Bulldog who is Brachycephalic. THEY DO NOT COVER Brachycephalic problems!! Meaning if you have a pug, boxer, french/english bulldog, boston terrier, pekingese, king charles cavalier, your pets breathing surgery (if they need) or any related problems are NOT COVERED. In addition, they find ways to pay you less. Read Example below: I had an emergency visit where my dog was bit by another, and had a lacerated tongue and had to get 6 teeth removed. I had two hospital visits totaling $1000. My deductible is $750 to start receiving coverage. The first visit included an $150 emergency evaluation fee + services in total of a $244 visit. (The $150 visit fee is not eligible for refund, but does count toward my deductible). The second visit was the remaining $767. Instead of counting the $244 visit toward the deductible (remember, including an $150 emergency evaluation fee that counts toward deductible, but not eligible to be refunded in a payout), they took the deductible from the second visit ($767), and counted the $244 visit (WHICH WAS THE FIRST VISIT) toward the payout, conveniently so that I would only receive a payout not including the $150 evaluation. I received $83 + $17. Finding a creative way to structure the pay out so they could give LESS MONEY is the key here. if they counted the first visit ($244) toward the deductible, I would have met the deductible in the second visit, and received a payout of $234. $83+ $17 VS $234... Shady practices. avoid at all costs. The customer service people on the phone sound like they never graduated highschool and get confused when you bring up an issue, and claim to not know anything about the process.
