do not buy this pet insurance, have a lab that injured his knee and needed surgery- they denied it and now i have to appeal to them and to an "independent" third party vet, that gets paid by whom??? yes, trupanion, how can this vet ever be impartial?- my dog has been at the same vet for over 11 years and not one problem ever with his leg!- full documented records and still they don't want to pay and they keep delaying the appeal process so i keep paying the premium! stay away!!

hello there. I love love love trupanion. So far they are great. They cover 90% of the bill. But do not cover yearly vaccinations, the initial vet fee to check out your pet ie. mine is $47.00, and they also in canada do not cover the taxes which is unfortunate, but their reason behind it is justifiable. We took our dog in on a monday and after faxing off the paperwork that day I recieved an email stating it had been recieved and will be reviewed. That thursday I got an email saying that it have been processed along with the break down of whats covered, whats not, and how much the cheque will be made out for. And the following monday (just one week later) I got the cheque in the mail. Very very impressed. Thanks Trupanion.

Lifesaver!
I joined Trupanion and have not regretted it. My dog came down with persistent pneumonia a few months after becoming insured. I was slightly concerned about submitting a claim so early, but Trupanion paid 90% of his fees, totaling approximately $3000, no deductible. It was simple, fast, and fair. We aren't out of the woods yet with his pneumonia, but it gives me great peace of mind that I can give him the care he deserves and that Trupanion is an honest insurance company. An insurance company with integrity, who knew!

First claim made . . . took a bit long but in the future it will be smoother (as they now have her bulky file). Was a bit skeptical in pet insurance companies . . . but this has given me the confidence for future incidents:)

Thank the Lord for Trupanion!
I am a veterinary technician and am the proud owner of two young kitties. I have owned pets all of my life and have been in this field for about 12 years. I have never been inclined to purchase pet insurance in the past because it has so many loopholes such as "per incident limits" and exclusions, such as cancer, or recurring illnesses, that I didn't think it was really worth it, especially sice I work in this field. When the rep came to talk to our hospital about Trupanion it was hands down the best Pet Insurance that I had ever seen. I started to think about the times when my animals got sick on the weekends, overnights, and holidays when I couldn't take them into my hospital, or when I would need a specialist, so I decided to give Trupanion a shot.....boy am I glad I did! My youngest cat ingested a foreign body (my son's foam building blocks) one week later, and there I was, in the emergency hopsital on a Sunday night at 10:00 pm. Long story short, she was hospitalized for 3 days and ended up having surgery to have the object removed. Trupanion covered 90%! That was 6 months ago, and my very unfortunate, (and not so bright)little kitty just had her second exploratory surgery for eating something else she shouldn't have, and Trupanion covered it all. The x-rays, ultrasound, surgery, hospital stay, all of it. I enrolled with Trupanion in the summer of 2010 and have paid ~ $250 dollars total, for both cats policy's. Unlimited lifetime payouts on eligible conditions with no payout limits-ever.
Deductible
You can choose your deductible from $0 – $1000, in $5 increments, to fit your budget.
Trupanion offers a lifetime, per condition deductible meaning that once the deductible is met for an eligible condition, you never have to meet it again. That condition is covered for life. This is great for chronic conditions that can span the entirety of a pet’s life such as allergies or cancer.
Age Limits
All pets under 14 years old can enroll.
Once enrolled, pets stay insured regardless of age.
Waiting Period
Accidents: 5 days
Illnesses: 30 days
Other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.
Exclusions
Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries. That means we don’t cover “predictable” care costs that you can plan ahead for, like:
Examination fees
Wellness and preventive care
Elective, or cosmetic procedures
Sales tax, where applicable
