Trupanion pets lead longer happier lives.1 Pets insured with Trupanion lived longer than pets without Trupanion because pet parents didn’t have to worry about the cost of the care their pet needed. Depending on the plan Trupanion covers up to 90% of eligible expenses, has unlimited payouts-always, and can pay your vet bill, within seconds, at time of checkout, so all you pay is your portion (anything not covered by Trupanion). They have transformed the way pet insurance handles claims by eliminating the reimbursement process.
Trupanion was founded in Canada and provides bets-in-class coverage and is dedicated to helping pets we love get the care they need. They’ve been around for more than 20 years, making them experts and setting standards for the industry. One perk of this, and what they pride themselves on, is the amount they pay out to pet owners for each claim. Paying out more on the dollar than any other pet insurance provider. To date they have paid out $2 Billion in claims and have insured nearly 1 million pets.
To put it simply, there is a reason why 98.7% of Trupanion members stay enrolled every month.
1Based on a December, 2020 Trupanion study analyzing third party hospital claims data comparing pets insured with a Trupanion policy to pets without a Trupanion policy.

awful
Would like to let everyone know about my experience with Trupanion. After thoroughly researching pet insurance companies, I decide on Trupanion. When Ares started limping I spent my hard earned money, did everything a responsible pet owner would do. Even took her to an orthopedic surgeon. To my relief she just pulled something. I filed my claim with Trupanion only to receive a letter that they won't cover anything because it's an illness. I of course called and disputed their decision. I was told that limping is an illness and it occurred before the 30 day waiting period. Since when is a pulled muscle an illness!? I fought back and forth with them for months, eventually calling in December to cancel both Ares and Ezras insurance. Heard the whole speech of how their sry to see me go, blah blah blah. Was told no more charges would be withdrawn from my credit card. February comes around and Trupanion pulled 2 payments from my credit card. Called and was told I didn't send a letter to cancel! Told them to pull the phone call from when I cancelled and they told me I was misinformed and apologized to me for not letting me know I had to send a cancellation letter but won't refund the double withdrawn payments. BS. I have to cancel my credit card and file an unauthorized charges and dispute the charges. Called Trupanion one last time thinking they would make things right. Nope, they want me to respond to an email stating that I cancelled my insurance on February 13th or they will pull another payment on February 21st. Good luck with that. Credit card company cancelled the card and blocked any further charges from your company. Shame on you for misinforming me and expecting me to pay for your mistake! My advice to anyone looking for pet insurance. Don't even consider Trupanion. Try VPI, Healthy Paws or anyone else for that matter. I did EVERYTHING I was asked to no avail. Now I can't go to any other company because if she does start limping or injured her leg, it will be considered pre-existing. So disappointed.

So glad we had Trupanion
Our young, energetic and powerful staffy-mix unfortunately didn't know how to play fetch at a more moderate level of intensity. He tore is cruciat ligament turning and running up hill and came back limping. For larger dogs like this, the recommended procedure is TPLO surgery. There are other less expensive surgeries that are typically used on smaller dogs. at $4500, I was worried that Trupanion might only cover for the lower, more typical procedure. I held my breath for a couple weeks waiting for the outcome and was happy to see they covered the full 90% after deductible with no hassles. I understand that it took a bit of time to work through the claim as, a first time issue, they need to collect the history of all prior vet documentation. Now I need to ask whether post surgery physical therapy is covered despite not having athe special rider for PT... which may be non-surgery related PT.

Because of Trupanion, My Dog Didn't Die of Cancer
In 2014 my Black Lab mix was diagnosed with bladder cancer and liver cancer. She had no symptoms; the tumors were found by accident through an annual exam. Kelly was born on my laundry room floor along with 7 other litter mates after I had rescued her fearful mother, Maggie, just 4 days earlier. The litter had to be bottle fed every 2 hours and Kelly was the runt - this would become the toughest rescue I would ever encounter. But my rewards would last for 13 years and 42 days.
Two important factors guided my decision to pursue chemotherapy treatment for Kelly: she had excellent health insurance with Trupanion and despite her actual age, she had the energy of a 7 year old. So she first had surgery to remove the tumors in her bladder and on her liver, & then after she healed we started chemo with an Oncologist in Indianapolis.
After 3 months of chemo, I needed to go back east to Baltimore so Kelly continued her chemo out east with a different Oncologist. Trupanion had no problem with the fact that we were switching back and forth between vets in different states. Reimbursements were even quicker when a Trupanion employee to me about direct deposit into my checking account. They make it so easy - no more delays and taking a check to the bank.
There was a 3 month period of time that Kelly was in remission in early 2015, but then the bladder cancer slowly came back. So we started up a different course of chemo just to slow the bladder cancer down. Around this point, Kelly's medical bills were around $15,000.00. For both Maggie & Kelly I had $0 deduction with 90% reimbursement with Trupanion, so although their premiums were the highest on the scale it turned out to be the best choice overall.
During the summer of 2015 Kelly's Indianapolis Oncologist moved out of state, so our next best choice was the Oncology department at Purdue University Veterinary School of Medicine 1.5 hrs away. Kelly was still holding her own, eating well, & I was looking forward to working the Vet who was the leading authority on canine bladder cancer in the country.
Three days before Kelly was to start chemo at Purdue she passed away - not of cancer, but of a bleeding stomach ulcer caused by one of the cancer pills she was prescribed. A part of my heart left with her.
In total, Kelly's cancer bills totaled $25,800.00. Without Trupanion, I would never have that last year with Kelly. Trupanion was great.
I have 5 rescued dogs right now, and you never know their me

Totally stunned at the quality of service
For the first time I purchased a health policy for a dog. With vet prices rising I just thought it may be a good idea. My dog developed allergies and so I put in a claim expecting an argument. Nope, I got fast, efficient service and a helpful and cheerful customer service person who was amazing. Great job! So glad I chose Trupanion!
