Trupanion Canada | Pet Insurance Review

parvo virus survivor, 3 knee injuries, bladder/kidney troubles and epilepsy.... All my dogs are happy and stable thanks to Trupanion... my rescue puppies... well dogs now have the best care and lives they could have dreamed of. They have the opportunity to become old dogs with long quality lives with significant credit based on the coverage of our insurance... don't have a dog without it.

We have had our cat Baby Boosh, for just over a year. She was a rescue from Montreal. We signed up for Trupanion insurance about a month ago. Last week, she started urinating small amounts of blood. We immediately took her to the local vet, who ran a slew of tests including an xray which showed a mass in her bladder. They had no idea what it was, but suggested we have an ultrasound technician look at it later that day. The technician found that there were 3 bladder stones and the large mass was a blood clot. They said we needed to do surgery in order to clear it. Good thing we had Trupanion insurance! The invoice for that day (tests, ultrasound, bloodwork, urinalysis, etc.) was $1400. The surgery was going to be $2400. The clinic is a Trupanion Express partner, so they submitted the claim. Within a few hours we received an email from Trupanion that none of the services or surgery would be covered because we were 3 days shy of the 30-day waiting period - so it was considered a pre-existing condition. We called Trupanion and tried to resolve the issue to no avail. They stood by the 30-day waiting period and would not contribute any amount to the costs. Even worse, they said that if there was any recurrence of the problem (or anything else even remotely related to it) at any point in the future, it would not be covered - again, considered a pre-existing condition. I think it's pretty clear that we had no malintent in this situation - if we were looking to "scam" the insurance, we would have obviously made sure to wait this "30 day period". We check some of the other insurers and found most have a 14-day waiting period. Why Trupanion has 30-days is anyone's guess. I got the feeling from the phone conversation that Trupanion may be one of those insurers who tries to deny claims all the time and puts the burden on the insured to prove things. We are obviously paying the costs for the surgery for our Baby Boosh, but very disappointed in how Trupanion handled the situation.

Do not trust Trupanion. We paid our deductible, had over $1300.oo is vet bills. Trupanion gave us $6.00!!!!! Now they don't cover our pets illness. But still want us to recommend them to our friends and families.

My 8 months old puppy was admitted to an emergency vet with a collapsed lung. I was in a panic and forgot I had signed up for a Trupanion trial. The next day I contacted Trupanion and spoke with a wonderful representative who was so caring and took the time to ask how I was and my dog which I sincerely appreciated. I asked if my trial was still active, which it was, and moved forward with continuing my coverage. I also explained the current medical situation and my representative jumped on it so quickly. The whole process was smooth and painless and my dog was in surgery before I new it getting taken care of. Trupanion and the vets I used were absolutely amazing and I could not have asked for a better outcome. I strongly encourage you to use Trupanion!

5 Stars All The Way!!!!! Our little Toy Poodle, Maggie, was becoming lethargic and not eating properly. A once very active, happy little dog, she would look at us as if to say, "I'd love to come play with you but I'm not feeling well". A vet visit, which led to x-ray, which led to ultra-sound proved that Maggie required surgery to remove a sludge filled gall bladder. Trupanion came thru completely! There was no paperwork required on my end. The vet hospitals emailed Trupanion the bills (I paid in advance) and within 24 hours I received emails from Trupanion that the claims were approved and a cheque was submitted. THAT EASY!!! But even better than the ease of payment and approval is the life of Maggie, who is back to her playful, full of energy little dog. Without Trupanion to help us with the cost of surgery, we may have had to make a very difficult decision as her health would have worsened (thankfully I don't have to think of that). I can't say enough about this insurance company and have shared with all of my family and friends.....if you get a pet, get Trupanion Pet Insurance!!!! THANK YOU Trupanion from Maggie and us!
