Close to the best.

I would refer this company to pet owners. Turn around time for reimbursement is fair. Every so often it needs to be reviewed in regard of the payment. At that time it’s fair and I am alloted an additional amount. They are the best in being appologetic and caring. You are never rushed off impolitely.

Incessant calling and emailing

I don’t even have the insurance and they send constant (sometimes daily) emails and phone calls. Stop trying to pressure insurance on people. Wow.

I am so thankful I chose this company!

This company saved me! They are kind, compassionate and everything a insurance company should be. I switched from my old insurance company when I got my new dog because they were slow to pay and had very low maximums. My previous dog had no problems until the end of her life and the other insurance covered less than half of what we ended up paying. I almost didn't get insurance again because it hardly seemed worth it. But a friend told me about Trupanion so I decided to go with them. A totally unexpected life threatening illness brought me with my puppy to emergency. I was a complete mess and terrified I would lose my dog. Not only did Trupanion approve the claim within a coupe of hours - on a Saturday night! - they also asked the vet assistant to tele that they wished us all the best and were hoping for my puppy's recover. Both the veterinary nurse and I were in tears. She said "I have never heard that kind of thing from an insurance company." Fortunately she did recover although has some ongoing problems but they are manageable so far. I am so grateful to be with this company.

This company will find anyway possible to deny claims

For 6 years I paid THOUSANDS of dollars for full coverage with this company—I NEVER filed a single claim with them! They denied my one and only claim with them for a UTI in my 14yr dog. Their reasoning for denying this claim was because 7 gyears ago my dog had accute kidney failure (nothing to do with any sort of UTI). But because this company feels acute kidney failure, acute renal failure, abdominal urinalysis/blood values—are the same signes consistent with a UTI. They denied my claim for a common UTI 7 years later. Trupanion told me I could attempt to disbute their denial of my claim, but the representative said, “no one ever wins the disputes and I’ve never heard of them paying a denied claim”.

Coverage

Payout Limits

Unlimited lifetime payouts on eligible conditions with no payout limits-ever.

Deductible

You can choose your deductible from $0 – $1000, in $5 increments, to fit your budget. Trupanion offers a lifetime, per condition deductible meaning that once the deductible is met for an eligible condition, you never have to meet it again. That condition is covered for life. This is great for chronic conditions that can span the entirety of a pet’s life such as allergies or cancer.

Age Limits

All pets under 14 years old can enroll. Once enrolled, pets stay insured regardless of age.

Waiting Period

Accidents: 5 days Illnesses: 30 days Other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.

Exclusions

Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries.
