Trupanion has lost touch with its customers

I feel that Trupanion has started to lose touch with their customers.The simple clear service is starting to get bogged down with multiple layers of policies. What has started out as a very straight forward company has unfortunately not had a long term business plan and is falling victim to excessive rate increases. My policy which started out at $76. per month is now $145.00 per month with 2 small claims under $600 ( of which i paid the exam fee ...which I knew was my responsibility)over 4 years. Where I once was very proud to recommending the company to fellow pet owners I have now very seldom recommended them.

Big mistake

Learn from my mistake! Pet insurance was a complete waste of my money. I spent over $4100 in premiums over nearly 6 years. The one time I submitted a claim it resulted in zero reimbursement. Sure, they "covered" the claim, but little did I know that you have to pay a separate deductible for each individual ailment that your dog has, even when it is one episode of care or one injury. My dog needed 2 lumps removed from his leg and tested for skin cancer (thankfully was negative). It cost about $1300. My deductible was $500. They consider each lump to be a separate condition and so I would need to pay 2 deductibles. Honestly! Let's say your dog gets hit by a car and breaks more than one bone in its leg. You will be charged a separate deductible for each bone, each cut, each individual issue and they will have you paying probably 6 different deductibles. Once you pay $3000 in deductibles you may have reached the cost of the entire ordeal. My money would have been better invested rather than throwing it away on Trupanion premiums. All the companies would work the same and it's only about their financial gain, not taking care of pets. Be careful.

My experience with Trupanion has been awesome

My experience with Trupanion has been above and beyond. When our fur baby took sick and the vet bills were pulling up Trupanion came through for us. There were no long waits for getting reimbursed the money. This company really cares for their customers. I would highly recommend Trupanion.

Trupanion has settled all claims…

Trupanion has settled all claims promptly. The only issue is that they have raised the premium every year. I am now paying twice my original premium 5 years later. I have raised my deductible from 0 to $100 to try to keep costs down.

Coverage

Payout Limits

Unlimited lifetime payouts on eligible conditions with no payout limits-ever.

Deductible

You can choose your deductible from $0 – $1000, in $5 increments, to fit your budget. Trupanion offers a lifetime, per condition deductible meaning that once the deductible is met for an eligible condition, you never have to meet it again. That condition is covered for life. This is great for chronic conditions that can span the entirety of a pet’s life such as allergies or cancer.

Age Limits

All pets under 14 years old can enroll. Once enrolled, pets stay insured regardless of age.

Waiting Period

Accidents: 5 days Illnesses: 30 days Other providers may have additional waiting periods for congenital conditions like hip dysplasia, Trupanion does not.

Exclusions

Trupanion was developed to protect you and your pet from unexpected illnesses and injuries.
