Trupanion should be ashamed…
So my dog gets pyometra and requires IMMEDIATE life saving emergency surgery. Fortunately she’s recovering but while I’m caring for her Trupanion informs me that the vast majority of my $2000 claim will not be covered because “getting spayed” is “elective” surgery. My options were “get the emergency spay or your dog will die”. That doesn’t sound like elective surgery to me. It even clearly states in the Trupanion benefits booklet that spays are not covered UNLESS they are the result of illness. Pyometra is a deadly infection of the uterus. This sounds like a no brainer to me… but in true insurance company form, Trupanion proves to be no different… “Thanks for your monthly premiums but good luck trying to collect.” Now I’m forced to appeal it and waste my time (while I should be caring for my dog) and the vets time (while he should be caring for everyone else’s pets). Trupanion should be ashamed.
