I did a comparison of the 10 Best pet…

I did a comparison of the 10 Best pet insurance plans to find out which pet insurance will actually protect my 2-month-old puppy who is currently 18 weeks old. I chose Pumpkin pet insurance because Ms. Charlene Oliver provided me with her photo, CA license number and the direct website and instructions for me to verify that this is a legitimate business. I chose and paid for the annual Puppy Wellness Plan and the Accident/Illness Plan. My puppy has received all the puppy vaccines by April 18, 2026. The Pumpkin Pet Insurance website was very easy for me to submit the three (3) veterinary claims and between May 3 to 7, 2025, I received payments for all (3) invoices. After May 22, 2026, I'm going to enroll my older dog in Pumpkin Pet Insurance. I was unable to cancel the current pet insurance for my older dog even though they terminated the contract 03/30/2026.

Monthly Cost

Plans start as low as $30 per month. Prices vary based on plan type, pet breed, age, and location.

Coverage

Every pet is covered by a 90% reimbursement rate to make it easier to say “yes” to the best possible care.

Payout Limits

Annual limits of $10,000, $20,000 or unlimited for dogs and $7,000, $15,000 or unlimited for cats.

Deductible

3 options: $100, $250, $500 and $1000

Age Limits

No upper age limits. Pets must be at least 8 weeks old to enroll.

Waiting Period

Insurance coverage begins 14 days after your policy begins for all conditions, including knee/ligament issues where some other policies make you wait 6 months for coverage. No waiting periods for preventive care (in fact, depending on when you received the care, you may be eligible for a retroactive refund).

Exclusions

Pre-existing conditions are not covered. However, unlike some other pet insurances, Pumpkin’s plan covers some curable pre-existing conditions if symptom-free for 180 days, with the exception of knee and ligament conditions. For full terms, visit pumpkin.care/insurancepolicy.
