Pets Best | Pet Insurance Review

Next year I'm going to switch back to Healthy Paws. They might be the slightest bit more expensive, but they are SO kind, accurate and quick. Customer Service provided incorrect information the first time I called, so I was of the impression I would be reimbursed for a vet visit, only to find out I wouldn't be due to the time frame. Then, to top it off, the condition I thought my pup would be reimbursed for was then considered a 'pre-existing condition' and wasn't reimbursed at all. I've paid more out of pocket PLUS the deductibles PLUS the portions not covered PLUS the monthly payment. The 1 time I have been reimbursed, it wasn't fully reimbursed and it took over a month to receive just partial payment. When I called to smooth this out, the lady did nothing to resolve the mistakes made on their end and instead kept apologizing in the oddest way. I thought maybe she was confused that my pet had died and I had to ask her why she was apologizing, it was an uncomfortable phone call. Pets Best is by no means the worst experience I've ever had, that's why I don't mind finishing out the year with them, but the amount I have paid out anyways just isn't worth it.

I submitted a claim for my dog on January 27th and it wasn’t completed until March 5th. I called twice and also emailed twice and was informed we will get it processed as soon as possible. They have no problem of taking my monthly premium, but it takes forever to get a response or reimbursement. I’ve had a policy with them for 13 years and this will be my last one. Every year my policy goes up from $30-$55 each month.

Just 2 stars. I wish I can rate more then 2 ... I lost my buddy in April last year, painful loss for my entire family. He was covered by Nationwide (former VPI) health insurance and they do have max payoff coverage. When we rescued new pup I stated shopping around and got blinded by all good reviews and promised service. Sure enough I was on a cloud after they processed all our beginning claims in 2-4 days paying 90% as they promised. Now I back to reality - all they do ON TIME is grab your insurance payment. Everything else? Well , my last 5-6 claims delayed 15-20 days and most changed from Medical claim to Wellness claim , sure enough Wellness claims not paid because max amount already paid. I guess time to go back to Nationwide or shop around... PS. Only real best part - phone consultations with vets , if you need urgent vet care or opinion, they really great helping you, thank you at least for that.

I'm convinced all these 5 star reviews are fake. This company has denied all but one claim by trying to say it was a preexisting condition. They will label ANYTHING they can as a preexisting condition just so they won't pay it. They literally told me "A lot of people get denied." The first claim they denied is because they said that "the vet used the exact same medication to treat a UTI previously so your claim is denied now because he has a stress induced cystitis flair up." The UTI was treated with an antibiotic and a pain killer. The cystitis a month later was treated with a pain killer so they called it the same. The vet even noted in their medical record the second one was due to stress. I let that go but I shouldn't have. A few months later, out of the blue, my same cat got blocked and I had to rush him to the vet. They found it was just a mucus plug. They flushed it out and had him stay in the hospital for 3 days. They prescribed him Prazosin just in case for when he went home. **PRAZOSIN IS COVERED IN PETS' BESTS OWN LIST OF MEDICATIONS - NO WHERE DOES IT SAY ON YOUR PAPERWORK THAT A NEW MEDICATION WILL BE DENIED FOR BEING RELATED FOR A SUPPOSED PRE-EXISTING CONDITION.** My cat has never taken this medication before! This all came to about $1780. I paid $800 to the vet up front to the do the procedure and the prescription, and the vet filled out a reimbursement form for the balance because THE VET said "He had not be hospitalized before, nor had a plug before so they shouldn't have a problem reimbursing this." It took over 30 days for any of these claims to be looked at. LO AND BEHOLD, TODAY, EVERYTHING WAS DENIED. They told me it was a preexisting condition all because it related to the same body part. Yes. First they tell me it's because the medication was the same, now they're telling me it's because it's the same body part. Then they tell me if I want to dispute it, it'll take AN ADDITIONAL 60 DAYS TO BE REVIEWED. YES, 90 DAYS TO GET A YES OR NO. Meanwhile you're expected to make monthly payments and pay the vet because they will not wait long for their money. DON'T END UP LIKE ME! I'M POSTING MY REVIEW EVERYWHERE SO PEOPLE CAN SEE. I'VE COMPLETELY WASTED MY TIME AND MONEY ON THIS COMPANY.

I've used Pets Best for my American Foxhound, Chance, since early 2015. They've always been very easy to deal with on submitting claims as well as very prompt in receiving payment.
