Nationwide Pet has canceled my girls…

Nationwide Pet has canceled my girls policy Whole Pet with Wellness after 8 plus years of paying high monthly premiums for their Gold Standard policy. A policy that when purchased, I was assured would cover her for life. In May of 2024, I received a letter of nonrewal for her policy. When I called, Nationwide Pet representative told me that Nationwide Pet would no longer be covering pets 8 years and older for illnesses. What happened to coverage for life??? Nationwide Pet has announced they are dropping hundred thousand policies across the country due to inflation. While websites are posting Nationwide billions of dollars in profit for the third consecutive year. Nationwide Pet has left my dog with no insurance, preexisting conditions that were covered under her original policy with them. Higher premiums to insure an older dog, and higher out of pocket expenses. When myself and others posted on their social media pages about what is happening, we were blocked. Nationwide is NOT on your side. Buyer BEWARE!

Nationwide is absolutely not on your side

After 5 years of being a customer, Nationwide dropped insurance coverage for my dog. I had Whole Pet With Wellness Plan for him. They "elected to discontinue certain plans including Whole Pet" The reason in the letter said "economic pressures from inflation, higher interest rates and rising costs" They are not offering a way to roll into another plan. They are cold-heartedly dropping the plan. After receiving the letter, I called Nationwide and I was told that I needed to sign up as a new customer, and that all the conditions currently covered will not be covered since they are now pre-existing conditions. On top of that the waiting period for accident, illness etc. would apply again. If I could give zero star for their treatment of pets, I would.

Insurance Covered Major Dental Work

My elderly dog needed major dental surgery which was carefully and respectfully provided by my local vets. She was tested to see if she could handle anesthesia (she could) and surgery went well. When I submitted my claim, the insurance covered easily half of the costs which was deeply appreciated. Being a resilient mixed breed (poodle, schnauzer), she recovered quickly and is back to demanding attention, walks, treats and meals.

Shame on you Nationwide

I would give zero if I could! My pup and I have been with Nationwide for 8 years. My premium started at $79.00 a month and the rates did rise yearly, as expected. My bill last month was $181.00. This month is was $319.00. That is an increase of 76%!!! I called customer service and they said beacuse they do not offer that plan to people anymore and the rates relect that. So they are pricing me out of my grandfathered plan with $100.00 deductable. Not good business. After 8 years you have lost my business and my trust. Shame on you Nationwide.

Best insurance for pets

I can’t say enough about how great Nationwide Insurance has been. We have had the insurance since our dog was 6 months old, and we have used the instance many times. Our dog just recently had gallbladder surgery which I was very expensive. Nationwide processed the claim in two weeks. This has been our experience for years ( our dog is 9 years old).

Monthly Cost

Policies start at approximately $12 per month.

Coverage

Nationwide offers a variety of plans offering varying levels of coverage. The company’s most popular plan, Whole Pet with Wellness, offers 90% reimbursement for accident, injury, illness and wellness care, inclusive of exam fees. All Nationwide members have complimentary 24/7 access to vethelpline.

Payout Limits

Depending on the plan selected, there may be annual benefit limits or per incident benefit allowances. There is no annual limit for the company’s most popular plan, Whole Pet with Wellness.

Deductible

Annual deductibles range from $0 to $1,000. Most popular annual deductible for Whole Pet with Wellness is $250.

Age Limits

No age restriction to enroll in company’s most popular plan, Whole Pet with Wellness. Other plans may have age restrictions.

Waiting Period

14-day waiting period after application approved and payment of premium is received.

Exclusions

Pre-existing conditions are not covered on any plans (if a condition is curable, it may be eligible for review if pet remains treatment-free for at least six months). Whole Pet with Wellness covers nearly all veterinary expenses. Notable exclusions include boarding and grooming.
