Claim challenges

Claim information was vague. Now it's hard to get back to the vet to get more information to get claims processed. The technical diagnosis, well there isn't one for a puncture on the paw pad, at least my vet didn't put one. I still have a couple of claims like this. I get off same time as doctor closes.

Cyrus can run after a ball for the first time in his life!

Our rescue dog, Cyrus & his "twin" sister, Sadie, were BOTH born with severe bilateral hip dysplasia. We tried conservative medical management therapies to help them like dietetic changes, prescription meds, PT, underwater treadmill therapy, but both eventually needed a total hip replacement. Both dogs underwent the THR in Jan & have just finished a 5 month recovery & are doing fantastic w/their new hips! Nationwide has been there every single step of the way for us. Without our pet insurance, I don't know that we would have been able to provide the care these pups needed and will continue to need. Knowing we can rely on Nationwide to help us provide the best possible care for these dogs has been such a relief and comfort to us - there truly are no words to describe the feeling.

Nationwide is there for you and your pet...

Nationwide has been a very good insurer for our frenchie, Astor. Unfortunately, one thing they don't tell you when you sign up is that if you want the best plan, you need to request that at your renewal. Since our dog has had so many issues with allergies, we were unable to upgrade him to the highest plan, which would have covered his neutering. I would say, overall, the coverage has been great once you meet your deductible. Also note that there are different tiers and you need to check what is covered under each, because for instance neutering was not covered under the second tier plan which we have.

Monthly Cost

Policies start at approximately $12 per month.

Coverage

Nationwide offers a variety of plans offering varying levels of coverage. The company’s most popular plan, Whole Pet with Wellness, offers 90% reimbursement for accident, injury, illness and wellness care, inclusive of exam fees. All Nationwide members have complimentary 24/7 access to vethelpline.

Payout Limits

Depending on the plan selected, there may be annual benefit limits or per incident benefit allowances. There is no annual limit for the company’s most popular plan, Whole Pet with Wellness.

Deductible

Annual deductibles range from $0 to $1,000. Most popular annual deductible for Whole Pet with Wellness is $250.

Age Limits

No age restriction to enroll in company’s most popular plan, Whole Pet with Wellness. Other plans may have age restrictions.

Waiting Period

14-day waiting period after application approved and payment of premium is received.

Exclusions

Pre-existing conditions are not covered on any plans (if a condition is curable, it may be eligible for review if pet remains treatment-free for at least six months). Whole Pet with Wellness covers nearly all veterinary expenses. Notable exclusions include boarding and grooming.
Since 1982, Nationwide has helped pet owners protect what matters most. In 2015, it introduced Whole Pet with Wellness, the only U.S. pet health insurance plan offering complete coverage for injuries, accidents, illnesses and wellness care. Policies range from nose-to-tail coverage to routine pet care plans that offer reimbursement for wellness exams and preventive treatments.
