Once good...now Extortionists, violating consumer protections.

Healthy Paws was a good insurance company before they got taken over by Chubb. Rates were fair, coverage was good. Rates have escalated ridiculously since becoming "a Chubb Company." This year, after over 10 years of paying premiums, my rate was escalated by over 122%. In one fell swoop. This is a violation of consumer protection codes, and has been reported to the Better Business Bureau. This company has lost its moral and ethical compass, and has become yet another scummy extortion front. Truly abhorrent.

They downgrade your coverage when your pet reaches 7 years old!

I signed up when I got my dog in 2017. My plan’s coverage was 90% after a $100 deductible. My premium increased to about 4x the original amount over the years, which I understand. I just got an update that that coverage is no longer available for pets over 7 years old. They downgraded my plan to 70% after a $500 deductible. I understand changing plan options for new pets, but downgrading the plans of existing pets is disgusting. When you sign up, they assure you that costs will only increase with the price of vet care, not with your pet’s age. Now, they’re downgrading plans for senior pets knowing most won’t be able to get new plans with other companies at this point. People factor in affordability of vet costs when they choose to get a pet - downgrading their plans when their pets need it most is completely unethical. I recommended Healthy Paws for years, including to many pet owners through my work in shelters and hospitals. Now, I strongly advise against them. Haffner Law has a class action lawsuit for anyone interested.

Good service but very pricey.

The service is good, with claims being processed quickly and efficiently. However, in the past 5 years our premiums have more than doubled, from $41-$97/yr. This despite the fact that there is a $250 deductible and routine pet exams and procedures are not covered. So we are paying about $1200/yr. and typically never qualify for any reimbursement for regular vet visits, tests, vaccines, etc. I know this could change as our pet gets older or there is an accident, sickness, etc., but by that time our premiums may have doubled again! So it seems of questionable value at this point.
