Healthy Paws | Pet Insurance Review

My goofy dog, Merlin let out a scary sounding squeal the other night and we quickly decided he seemed to be choking on something. After two vet visits, 24 hours, and an endoscopy under general anesthesia, we came home with a dog on-the-mend and a $2400 vet bill. Was I ever surprised when I submitted my claim with the super-simple scan and upload feature that I had an answer in less than 24 hours with a complete explanation of benefits. Now, less than a week later, I have my check for over $2100 in hand. Not only that, but I got a nice e-mail from the company, checking to make sure that Merlin had recovered--this was clearly written by a person, not a computer! I couldn't be happier with Healthy Paws.

I've always owned pets, but was new to pet insurance when I got a new puppy last year. I researched a lot of companies before choosing to go with Healthy Paws. Recently, I found out what a great decision this was. You never really know how an insurance company will pan out until you are faced with a crisis. Our girl got very sick and spent a week in the hospital. Everything concerning my dealings with Healthy Paws at this time was A+. Their website and apps are very consumer friendly and make for seamless claim submittal. Their processing and payment times and super quick. They even inquired about how my girl was feeling, wanting to know if she was okay. Highly, highly recommended!

Our kitty had to have emergency surgery after swallowing a small rubber cap on a feather toy, which resulted in an obstructed intestine. We filed our claims with Healthy Paws and they processed them within a week. Their app is very user friendly (just take a photo of the bills and upload), and they covered a substantial portion of the cost, including the X-rays prior to surgery, the surgery itself, and kitty's hospital stay without any quibbling. There was no despair trying to correspond with an actual human being, and the customer service representative responded to our inquiries promptly and courteously.Healthy Paws really came through and lived up to their promises. Why can't health insurers for humans figure out how to do this?

As a previous VPI customer, I can truly see the excellent value of Healthy Paws. Not a month after making the switch from VPI my mixed breed tore her cruciate ligament and meniscus. Without any hesitation, Healthy Paws sent me a check to cover 80 percent of the close to $3000 surgery. When I adopted my rescue dog I got Healthy Paws immediately. Luckily I was covered when about a month later my vet discovered Mandy had liver disease. Healthy Paws covered 80 percent of all her labs and her monthly medications. Mandy also ended up with Demodex mange which was also covered. Without Healthy Paws, our pets would have created a financial disaster. Without a pay schedule like what VPI has, our bills were truly covered-not what an insurance company tells me what a vet should charge. My family is truly thankful for Healthy Paws and highly recommend them to anyone.

My dog, Zeus, is a rescue, and we adopted him in 2011 when he was just under 2 years old. He was vibrant and healthy up until the fall of 2013, when it was discovered that Zeus had a serious, chronic, autoimmune liver disease with a guarded prognosis. He underwent an ultrasound and a liver biopsy to confirm his diagnosis. Since then he has required a large number of expensive medications,and monthly blood draws to check his liver enzymes and adjust medications as needed. To be honest, I don't know how we would manage without Healthy Paws. Zeus is doing well right now, and the Healthy Paws folks send me e-mails asking how he is doing, which I appreciate so much. My claims are handled quickly without any hassle, and the staff is readily available if I have any questions. Without a doubt, this is the best pet insurance company I have ever worked with! When my baby developed this life challenging illness, I realized what it was going to take to keep him as healthy as possible.
