I initially purchased pet insurance for my (then) young male cat since I was seeing and hearing about the costs to diagnose and treat urinary blockages. I spent 3 years paying the premiums but never had a dire emergency. That all changed in mid-January when I woke up to find a spool of thread had been unwound and strewn throughout the house.
The first 24 hours were fine. My cat, Baker, ate and then, as cats often do, threw up some. Between 24 - 36 hours, he started slowing down, not eating and wanting seclusion. When he vomited a significant amount of brown, smelly intestinal contents, I knew that he was obstructed.
I ran him to a 24 hour vet clinic at 10 PM. Baker was promptly seen and x-rays confirmed that he ate string (the bowel was starting to accordion up toward stomach). I put a large deposit down for the surgery and post care, knowing that I had pet insurance. Baker had surgery at 1 AM. They had to open his bowel in 3 places and recovered almost 3 yards of string.
All in all, Baker did experience complications. He stayed in the hospital for 5 days and came home with a feeding tube. The final bill had me very nervous, but I am happy to say that Healthy Paws lived up to the policy! I had a $250 deductible and a 90% reimbursement policy. After my $250 deductible, I paid less than $750 out of my own pocket.
The filing of the claim was quick and easy. After getting the doctor notes from the clinic, I filed the claim online. Less than a week later, my reimbursement was in my bank account. Without Healthy Paws insurance, I would definitely had struggled with the financial burden this emergency placed on me. The vet clinic (Hillside Veterinary Clinic in Dallas, TX) saved his life and Healthy Paws allowed me to make the tough financial decisions.

Great Coverage and Quick Reimbursement
We did quite a bit of research about finding a good insurance for our baby French Bulldog, figuring if we didn’t get it something was bound to happen and if we did then we would be covered.
Beyond glad we chose Healthy Paws as our pup took a tumble at doggy daycare and fractured his elbow about a week ago and racked up huge vet bills. We submitted the claims via the Healthy Paws app and were reimbursed within the week! We couldn’t be happier with the quick turnaround, customer support when we called with questions and the follow up of the team. Most importantly, they saved us over $4,000 in out of pocket expenses.
Very glad we chose Healthy Paws!

Healthy Paws Saves Lives!
I have had Healthy Paws for 8 years. Over the years we have had a dental surgery, severe bacterial infections, seizures, pancreatitis, and now Irritable Bowel Disease. Not having to worry about vet bills allows me to give my pup the latest and greatest care possible, and I should know, she has her very own neurologist and internal medicine specialist! I don't even have that myself! Thank you Healthy Paws for being a true life saver time and time again!! -Kay W.
I have been a customer of Healthy Paws for over 5 years now. I've had two of my pets covered with Healthy Paws within that time. I've never experienced huge increases in premiums with my first pet's insurance. She was covered for nearly 4 years, but that pet has since passed. Currently, I only have one pet covered since Jan 2016 with a premium of $39.72/month. After one year it increased slightly to $43.70/month, which is reasonable. However, the next year it jumped to $54.18/month, and they just raised it again to $67.81/month this year. These are substantial increases, which they justify as increased cost of vet care. They really put pet owners in a bind and forcing them to choose between what they can afford and their pet's life. Starting over with a new pet insurance company will make our pet ineligible for certain coverage based on new health conditions that have been found since then. Healthy Paws says that rates are not affected by the number or nature of the claims that we submit, but I do not believe them. Unfortunately, we have had to submit many claims for our accident prone dog, so it's a suspicious coincidence that the premiums keep jumping up. I am not a happy customer of Healthy Paws and hate how they are taking advantage of the situation that many other pet owners will face.
