I purchased Embrace through my…USAA insurance company

I purchased Embrace through my insurance company, USAA, at a discount that was arranged because of being part of the USAA family. It's been one year with no claims and no issues with my dog and they want to raise my premium by nearly 25%! They made a bad faith agreement with USAA and me.

First time user and Pet Ins owner

This was the first time that I have had pet insurance and the first time to file on the Embrace website for reimbursement. there was a learning curve on what to submit. I had the claim forms filled out, but since I was filing online rather than faxing or mailing I didn't need them (bonus!) I did have to rescan my invoices because I found out if the invoice/claim contains more than one pet you can submit all at once, but you have to scan all documents for the invoice. No big deal, again it was a learning curve. However, it will be much easier in the future that is for sure.

This company is terrible

This company is terrible. I submitted two claims over an 8th month time period and they never provided any response to indicate whether those claims would be paid or not. Rather, they just kept sending e-mails stating that they had not received all of the medical records requested from a particular vet's office even after I obtained the records and sent them to the company myself more than once. In addition, the premium just kept increasing from the moment that I purchased the policies. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

Monthly Cost

$13 – $100, depending on your chosen plan.

Coverage

You have a co-pay of 10%, 20% or 30% after your deductible, depending on your chosen plan. The pay-out amount is based on your actual vet bill.

Payout Limits

Annual limit of $2000, $5000, $10,000 or $15,000.

Deductible

Annual deductible options from $100 – $1,000.

Age Limits

Pet must be at least 6 weeks old to enroll. New pets over 14 are eligible for accident-only coverage. Once enrolled, pets can stay insured regardless of age.

Waiting Period

There is a two-week illness waiting period, which begins on your policies’ effective date. Orthopedic conditions have additional Waiting or exclusion periods that vary by state.

Exclusions

Pre-existing conditions are not covered. Hereditary and congenital conditions are covered if they have not been diagnosed or suspected before the policy becomes active. Main plan covers alternative treatments such as chiropractic, acupuncture and homeopathic when provided by a licensed veterinarian. Optional wellness and prescription drug plans are available for an additional cost.
