How to Save Money at Northwest Animal Care Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I originally found this office for an emergency for one of my dogs. They got me in despite the ice storm in December and we’re able to provide care to my very anxious large dog. After being very fond of them I continued care. My dog has high anxiety & not the most pleasant at the vet. They always go above and beyond to help him and make his experience as best as possible. Dr Compton and Ian have been able to provide excellent care for him. We also see Dr. Logan for our new puppy & every visit had been excellent the whole staff is very welcoming & the vet techs are such rockstars. Would highly recommend this office

I can’t say enough about this place. We have only ever used Dr. Logan, but both him and all the staff here are phenomenal. I’ve seen him regarding various animals of mine, recently took my beloved rat, Fern, for his last day and the team was amazing and so kind to both me and Fern. They are beyond kind, courteous, compassionate and ethical. I would intrust all my animals with Dr. Logan and his team.

I took my dog in to see Dr. Gomez a few days ago and was blown away by the level of care we received. My dog is naturally quite anxious so of course going to the vet is extremely hard on him. Dr. Gomez was gentle and patient the entire time while performing the exam and even let him sit on the bench for part of it! My dog has had on going licking issues for over 3 years with no resolution. Until last week, that is! Dr. Gomez took the time to ask questions and truly listen to my experience with him at home and offered several solutions to help my itchy boy. She took the time to explain what she was looking for, how long we should wait to see results, went over additional treatments if this didn't work, and even went over cost! The vet tech who assisted Dr. Gomez (I believe her name is Gina) was also excellent! She seemed super knowledgeable and kind and went above and beyond. I have been to this office before and ALWAYS had great experiences but this time truly knocked it out of the park. Plus the fact that it seems that the licking/itching issue has gone away! WOOHOO! I can't recommend this clinic enough!

Northwest Animal Care (in particular, Dr. Logan and Rebecca) were wonderful with Olive, my pet rabbit I just adopted. They both came into the exam room super quickly after I checked in, and were very patient with Olive while she got comfortable with her new surroundings. The wellness exam that Dr. Logan performed was thorough, and it gave me peace of mind about Olive's health. I had such a good experience with Northwest Animal Care and Dr. Logan that I'll be transitioning all my furry friends to come here for their annual checkups 🐰🐰 Thank you for providing us with a great vet experience!

The only reason why I'm giving 2 stars and not 1 is because the Veterinarian I saw was professional and informative. I show up on time for my minor emergency appointment but not only was I not greeted promptly but the wait was longer than expected. Once the vet tech called me to be seen she was cold and impersonal through out the visit (I don't think smiling is a loud when working there). Before a plan of treatment was created they reminded me of the cost of an urgent visit, more than once. After seeing the Veterinarian all I felt like was a dollar sign to them. I understand vet visit are expensive and especially for urgent visits but money seemed to be their main focus and not the wellbeing of my animal. I don't think I will be returning to this Veterinary Clinic anytime soon!
