How to Save Money at Broadway Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We had to put our cat to sleep last month and the techs here were incredible. They were very comforting and thoughtful during the process. We chose a private cremation and they took such care in helping us commemorate our girl.

Great place to have your furry friends looked at. Been going here for years. Great staff very caring with your babies. They treated Taz on her 1st time in, like a princess.. Haha, and thats when her wicked witch came out, (She's not a people person, very shy). Anyway. Love this place. Oh and they also told me about pet insurance that was a great fit for my kitty.

I don’t normally leave reviews for vet clinics as I know they have incredibly stressful jobs. However I felt I needed to give feedback. I brought my dog Josie in to be seen 3 weeks ago. She is 10.6 years old and had been experiencing loss of balance, lumps on her spine and stomach, yelps of pain and lethargy. She had a back injury that resulted in her losing a leg when she was around 1 year old. They were able to get me in the next day after calling and check in was easy and quick. BUT, the exam and initial check in with the vet tech felt rushed. I felt like they had already made up their minds that it was a case of “old dog arthritis and old dog lumps and bumps” before really considering anything else. In the end they did a urinalysis and exam and gave her her rabies shot and prescribed gabapentin and vetprofen for arthritis pain. The urinalysis said her liver was slightly elevated and she was a little anemic but nothing to worry about. I was charged over $550 for the visit and meds… over the next 3 weeks she has declined. She cried in pain, but only when she wasn’t on gabapentin. So I figured it was just her “arthritis”. Today she was having really bad diarrhea and lost some control of her back leg. I tried calling the clinic 3 times and left a message asking to speak to the doctor and never received a call back. After calling them, I went to take my 2 other dogs out for a walk, and when I came back, Josie was dead in her bed. I’m pretty heart broken and I feel like I should have trusted my gut and told the doctor I thought it was more than arthritis. It’s past their closing time and I still haven’t received a call back after I made one at noon today. So in the end my dog is dead and I am paying a $550 vet bill on my credit card. I know vets have incredibly stressful jobs and in no way was any of it malicious, but I do think they need to slow down and take time with each of the pets that come in. I am sure it was probably something terminal that was wrong with her, but I wish I could have been prepared instead of blindsided Positives: friendly staff and quick to be seen Negatives: failed to call me back, prices

My cat died shortly after they neutered him (2 days). They failed to detect he had heart disease and couldn't accept the fluids given to him during the neutering. He was 8 month's old, and they couldn't care less.
