How to Save Money at Intercity Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This clinic is absolutely amazing, if you are looking for a clinic that actually cares for your pet and takes the time to do what is necessary for them, then this is the clinic to go to. If you notice that it takes a while for the assistant to come back with your pet. It's because they are taking the time to look over your pet and figure out what is the best possible treatment for them. I took my pets here for 3 years and I'm so happy that I did all the doctors there are amazing and I would recommend them to anyone!

I have brought almost all of my pets to this clinic, my cat recently had an asthmatic episode and I spent $3000 at the emergency vet.. even after all of that I wanted to get a second opinion from Dr. Sekhon, that should say enough about how much I trust this Doctor! He was able to answer so many questions I had and prescribe other medication that has been helping my cat tremendously! He is honest and straight to the point, I never feel like he is trying to add on unnecessary things or "scam me". Intercity vet has always been my #1 for all my pets. You get what you pay for, his pricing reflects his knowledge, time and compassion for his work!!! I know this man cares because he called to follow up on how my cat is doing and always gets back to me timely when I have a question!!!! He comes through! The staff is amazing!!!!! They really make you feel like family and they care just as much about your furry friends! Thank you for being so amazing. It is always a pleasure seeing them! I'm a huge believer in, if you're nice and respectful then you will get treated the same! Even in a stressful time with your pet, find the time to be nice and considerate of the staff and doctors.. you have no idea how stressful it can be to diagnose a problem or help a pet and they work HARD to get you an answer as soon as possible with what you allow them to do for your pet!!!! Being kind gets you a lot farther than being rude. I've honestly never had an issue at this vet and they will continue to see my animals for as long as they are alive. I love this place dearly! I cannot say thank you enough.

If your dog or cat has a liver or kidney problem and you’ve exhausted yourself going from vet to vet who doesn’t care: come here. They understand the latest literature and medical journals. Blue pearl was a nightmare in comparison because they see so many very sick animals and run so many unnecessary tests. Unless you can afford the surgery then just come here. They love our animals. They are the best people I have met. They won’t move a muscle to hurt your animal they are careful and safe.

Very friendly staff who worked with me to get my pup in for neutering. This photo is a sad one but really pup was very well taken care of. Dr Foreman was very professional and helpful with my questions. So we’re the aides and the front desk! Overall, great experience and great customer care. Thanks guys!

Quick and easy vaccinations for my pup. Haven't gone for anything else but they sure make the process easy and painless.
