How to Save Money at Manassas Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I loved this place. First time there was today!! I had a dog mom freak out cause my pit puppy had a randomly very swollen face. I was so worried but the doctor answered the phone & was so nice/reassuring. Said it would prolly be okay but to bring him in just to be safe. That’s exactly what I did and even when I got there the two ladies at the front desk were very nice and sweet to Loki (my pup). Doc came in immediately after arriving & filling out paperwork and we were outta there. 10/10 experience compared to the other places I’ve been around here. Thanks guys!!!

We love this vet! We brought our cat in to get spayed and they were great with her! They are clear about costs ahead of time which is wonderful. And when we were concerned about her incision healing, they had us come in for a recheck at no extra cost. They really are great and we felt so comfortable because of the level of care they showed our baby girl.

I found my vet! I chose this hospital by a reference for my cat, Beebo and upon reading the reviews that were all five-star. I wish I could give more as I was very satisfied with the visit. Dr. Afzal is very knowledgeable, detail oriented and caring. The staff is not any different, Francis, Camila and Samantha were all very caring and supportive. Dr. Afzal took plenty of time in examining and explaining and for the decisions made for Beebo's medication. The cost of medicines and consultation was very reasonable, so this hospital far exceeded my expectations. Highly recommended.

This place is so amazing. The doctor and receptionists were really considerate at all times. They monitored my puppies every day sometimes calling us to take them for more medication. My dogs just got better because of the doctor’s effort. I’m truly grateful about everything this place have done for my family. They really care about your pets and your money.

I got a kitten from the shelter and when they sent her to get spayed she couldn't because she had diarrhea. The vet that the shelter sent her to for the spay simply tested her stool, ruled out of parasites and then set me along my way with some probiotics. After some time went by, I realized my kitten not only still had diarrhea but that she appeared that she might have ear mites and an upper respiratory infection so I called Manassas Animal Hospital and I was so glad I did. I have to mention that when my cat is in her carrier and she's riding in the car, she does get motion sickness and she has accidents in the carrier, which she had done by the time we got there. The doctor's staff took her out and gave her a nice bath, cleaned her carrier and even put one of their towels in the carrier in case she were to have an accident on the way home. She was given a very thorough exam where it was determined that she did have ear mites, an upper respiratory infection and that her diarrhea was still a problem. This doctor prescribed something to get rid of her diarrhea, and antibiotic for the upper respiratory infection with some eye cream and also Revolution X to kill the ear mites. My cat was so calm that she didn't have an accident on the way home. After 3 days on the medicines that the doctor gave, she is now thriving. She is now having what I can identify as a normal cat poop, she is no longer scratching her ears and it appears to be doing better on the antibiotics. I do have to go back to the shelter vet just to get her spayed because it's through the county, however, after that I will be bringing her back to this vet for any other issues and continued care. They are the kind of Veterinarian that I want to take my kitty to. Very thorough, educated and compassionate! What more could one ask for?
