How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Would give 0 stars if that was an option. I don't know why I keep dealing with Banfield when I leave feeling duped every time. I can finally say I will NEVER be back here. Recently, our Grandma passed away and she was holding onto her dog, who was 17+ years old, blind, deaf and incontinent. After calling around to multiple places, we chose to go with Banfield because of their $144.95 quote for euthanasia. We had to schedule an appointment because they couldn't accommodate on a Sunday, which was fine. Booked the appointment for Tuesday. After waiting 30 minutes in a tiny room for someone to even come into the room, the woman told us it would be $252. I was already upset enough, so I didn't question her. I just assumed the quote the girl gave me on the phone was wrong and it is what it is. She took our dog to put the catheter in and we waited another 30 minutes for her to come back in with the doctor. After everything was done and we were checking out, the receptionist told us it was so much because they are charging $75 for an office fee. I found this to be outrageous because we were only here for euthanasia. He claimed it was because "they had to put the catheter in" which I found to be a little confusing considering that is part of the euthanasia process. He went and grabbed a higher up and she argued with me asking why I didn't question the cost in the room... Maybe because our Grandma just died and now we are putting her dog down. I was upset enough and I thought the cost discrepancy was for only the euthanasia. She said if you would have said something before I could've done something about it.. not sure why it's any different at the front desk. If you could do something about it you still could. Ended up just paying the money, which was more expensive than any of the other places we called, and leaving feeling like a sucker. NEVER VISIT THIS PLACE! They are just a corporation and your pet will just be another number. Visit you local veterinarian where they care about the community and the pets who live in it. Shame on Banfield for taking advantage of pet owners. I WILL NEVER BE GOING BACK.

Banfield is the BEST ANIMAL HOSITAL EVER!!! They show you and your pet true compassion and attentiveness. Whenever I have to take my furbaby boy in there, I always know he is in the best of care when he visits his favorite Doctor, Dr. Diaz. Wendy, behind the counter when you first walk in is always happy, smiling and pays so much attention to your pet. Lastly, they have this wellness plan for your pet which is remarkable. You pay a monthly fee ( very affordable) and soooo much is covered including 1 dental cleaning a year. If you have not checked out Banfield Pet Hospital in Manassas yet, you're truly spending to much money somewhere else!! George Collins and his baby boy Kerrigan

I've trusted Banfield with my dog since he was a baby. My dog recently started limping so I went to Banfield to find out whats wrong with my dog. I sent my dog in from 9am - 5pm. The vet hasn't done anything to find out whats wrong with my him. My dog is like my child, and I have yet to find out whats wrong with my child. My dog still limps, and is unable to even go up or down the stairs. I dont know how to help my dog since I've gotten no information about my dog. I requested a thorough examination of my dog, but none was carried out. NOTHING. Please find another veterinarian to treat your dog to spare yourself some time and money.

Banfield Manassas is great. The staff are always upbeat and friendly. Every time I call, you can hear it in their voices that they enjoy what they do. The Vets themselves always take the time to go over everything and never make you feel rushed. I love taking my dogs there because I know they care.
