How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Wasatch Exotic Pet Care

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

Having just moved to the area I wanted to find a vet for all of my reptiles and I’m so glad I chose Wasatch Exotic Pet Care. My sweet ball python had her wellness exam today and the staff was so good to me each step of the way. You will call to let them know you have arrived and drop off your pet with them and then you will receive a call verifying information and if you have any concerns. About a half hour later I received a call from the vet going through the exam, any concerns or any questions I had. She was kind, easy to talk to, and had a fabulous personality. I’m thrilled to have found a great vet who I feel comfortable with and can trust them with my reptiles.

We are so grateful for the care and kindness for our bearded dragon. The vet is so knowledgeable and helpful. We unfortunately ended up having to put our 10 year old bearded dragon down due to degenerative bone disease and his lack of life from not being able to walk really anymore. The clinic greeted us with open arms when we came to spend the last moments with our boy. The vet and all the staff were all so soft spoken, so kind and sweet. We truly appreciated the acknowledgement of our loss and letting have as much time as we needed with him before leaving. When we get another bearded dragon we will definitely be bringing them here for their care. We feel very confident they have the animals best interest in mind and we trust our animals in their care. Thank you again to the vet and all their staff for your help and understanding during our trying time. We know our boy was cared for perfectly with them and we are happy to know he went peacefully thanks to you all.

Do not bring your beloved animals here. This vet can’t be trusted. They performed surgery on my dwarf bunny many years ago to remove kidney stones stuck in her bladder and ureter. She seemed to recover well. However, a few months later she started having complications again with weight loss and severe urine scalding. They took X-rays again and said she had bladder sludge that had to be flushed out. I spend thousands of dollars on her ongoing treatments, but her condition only got progressively worse. I had to move her with me to Oregon. I took her in again before moving to get more x-rays and see why her urine scalding was not improving. She was lethargic. I was told that there were no known issues and charged for more tests and treatments. I was told to continue administering fluid injections to keep flushing out her bladder. After moving her with me to Oregon, I sought out another exotic vet. She was in a lot of pain and barely moved. Severe urine scalding continued. They immediately knew something was wrong and took X-rays again, which showed a prolapsed bladder as a result of complications from her surgery two years ago! She immediately went into surgery again to fix it and her condition immediately improved. I then had X-rays forwarded from Wasatch Exotic to the new vet, who said the prolapsed bladder clearly showed in their X-rays several months before too. This was two years after surgery! She suffered with a prolapsed bladder the entire time! 😡 Why then, did Wasatch Exotic fail to disclose this information and continue charging me for unnecessary treatments that only caused my poor bunny more pain and suffering? They owe me thousands of dollars in reimbursement. Please don’t bring your beloved pets here if you don’t want to cause more pain and suffering to them while being ripped off and lied to.

Last night 2/13/24 my daughter’s guinea pig Oreo was in a sudden severe respiratory crisis and her normal vet wasn’t able to see her for over a week. I started calling around the next closest exotic vets and was able to get an urgent visit even though it was an hour before closing. They put her on oxygen straight away but there was very little response. It was determined it was either heart related or lung related but nothing could be done without further labs and imaging to treat it correctly. They had to keep her overnight for oxygen and observation and they would call in roughly 20 minutes with lab results and how to proceed. My daughter was very anxious, emotional and scared. We got about 15 minutes away from the vet and we got a phone call. Unfortunately it wasn’t the call we were expecting. Our piggy went into cardiac arrest after X-rays and they were performing cpr and emergency medicine. My daughter was distraught and they informed us they could keep going with life saving measures but the outlook wasn’t good and if she did revive she would most likely have permanent damage or pass again. We didn’t want to put her through anymore so I made the decision to stop the life saving measures. At this point the clinic was closed and we were invited back anyways after hours to speak to the Dr and go over all the other procedures. We went back to the clinic both in tears and they brought out her baby so we could say our goodbyes and just hold her while we did the final arrangements. The dr came in and showed us the X-rays and explained everything and answered all of our questions for quite a while. She had a bad case of pneumonia and unfortunately by the time she showed symptoms her lungs were completely full and damaged. We were able to get her cremated and choose a bunch of mementos for her and not once were rushed or felt like the staff was annoyed. They even gave us 2 glass vials of her hair. I hope our pig went peacefully and without pain and wasn’t scared and terrified of what was happening. We miss and love you so much Princess Piggy and you’ve left a huge hole in all our hearts. You were gone way to soon, we weren’t prepared and thought we had a few more years of your lovey, playful, loud self. We will miss all your daily squeaks and cage biting for your treats. Rest easy little baby.
