How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Pets First Veterinary Center

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

Shae here had a corneal ulcer in her eye. That took several weeks to heal. The vets here took great care of her. I loved that they communicated treatment options and felt like I was able to get my dog the best care and was still very affordable. Will always come back here.

What a great experience! Being a new resident to San Antonio, it was necessary to find a veterinarian clinic that both my Vizsla Jackson and I felt comfortable with. After checking around, I made the decision to go to Pet's First Veterinary Center & I'm so happy I did! My boy can be very anxious during his vet visits, but the staff was very caring & skilled in how they handled him. Our vet tech Destiny was incredibly kind & understanding & Dr Salinas was friendly and thorough during her exam & diagnosis. They took the time required & expected during these types of visits, & the entire staff was very friendly. Highly recommended!!

We have been with Pets First for almost six years. Dr Emshoff worked with us to deal with our dogs stress, anxiety and aggression associated with going into the clinic. We had been satisfied the services up until today. We understand that our dog is a challenge. What we cannot understand is how you call yourself compassionate? Instead of helping us, you complained that he is a problem and would no longer see him. A good vet would have provided education and resources for us to get the help our dog needs.

I have a very energetic German Shepherd rescued during the pandemic who is quite uncooperative when it comes to exams (not aggressive, just strongly protests by wriggling free). Dr. Emshoff is super patient with her and has accurately diagnosed and successfully treated her for a UTI, resistant hookworms and an allergic reaction. My girl can be wild in the lobby, and the front desk employees all pitch in to help me without being asked. I appreciate their dedication to the care and well being of animals.

We take both our beautiful boys here and the staff is knowledgeable, work well with you, and genuinely care about your pets health. Love this place. Also, really at a good mid-price point.
