How to Save Money at Ellison Drive Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I want to thank Dr Lorie Curd and her wonderful Team Members for taking excellent care of my Rescue Pit, Faith. They always provide loving, comforting treatment and always make her feel cared for. She is so comfortable that when Ava is behind the desk, she attempts to run to her just for a kind word or pat. She really thinks her appointments are play dates. Dr Curd is not only a great doctor but so innovative, and keeps up on all the newest treatments and procedures. She provides anything from well checks to intensive care, and more invasive therapies. She has provided my Faith with oral surgery, to abdominal leison removals and tumor removals to, axilla lymph node removal. She always takes the time to explain all reports and consultations, and the various options. I recommend this Clinic to all who care about their fur babies. This team is the best and I have visited here for the last 20 years off and on and feel Faith is getting the best care possible. Thank you to all....by the way Faith has a consultation with the Oncologist at the Cancer Center...thanks to you all...hopefully everything was caught early or the earliest as possible. We'll keep you mind with the results...Faith need

The most distinguishing characteristic about a Frenchie is their ears. Unfortunately, my Frenchie has been experiencing some major bacteria/yeast infections in both of his ears and it got to the point where it was affecting his hearing. I would clean his ears and within 2/3 days they were once again full of a black waxy gunk. Now it’s been a few weeks since Dr Curd examined Ammo and started a treatment plan for him. I’m so glad to see his ears stay clean and he is back to waking up with every little sound.

I was a bit iffy about trying this place because of the reviews, but it was closer than his usual vet. Since there was a lot of negativity around money and price gouging, I asked for a quote over the phone for a rabbit nail trim, and they said $25-30. It was a little more pricey than expected, but because of the distance, I made the appointment and drove up. Then it was $51. So i left.

I went to this animal and an angel fell from the sky watched over our dog gizmo and this angel become the doctor who saved him from torn hernia he was Torn inside his stomach his guts was outside his stomach but it wasn’t spilling literally The docter had to put him to sleep for the surgery. There was a chance that he wouldn’t wake up from the anesthesia, but that angel that is the doctor in disguise is Dr.Curd that saved his life we think her so much and her staff-Mary Ann Rutten

Had to take my dog here and let me be the one to congratulate a job well done. A special applause for vet tech Crystal who handled my dog Bella so well and who was extremely professional. It was all because of her exceptional experience with dogs that showed up when she took care of Bella. The cost was extremely affordable and I will definitely be back, hopefully just for preventative maintenance.
