How to Save Money at Fur & Feather veterinary hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

So happy I came here. My dog lost her eyesight earlier this week and so I found this place online and liked the good reviews. Brought her in and everyone was so kind and welcoming to us. The technician and doctor went out of their way to make sure my pup was comfortable and not anxious. The prognosis was a bit of a shock, glaucoma, because of my dogs age - 3.5 years old, but the vet was super kind and informative about everything, and even helped me find deals on the medication I’m getting prescribed. I didn’t feel rushed or like we were taking up too much time, and I loved getting so much information on how to learn to live with a visually-impaired pet. Excited for the follow-up in a couple weeks. I definitely recommend this place if you’re wanting a great environment and people who really care about your pets health.

We first came to Fur and Feathers about a year ago, it was recommended by our daughter. When we first arrived we were met by Bridgit and a very nervous puppy as his previous experience at the vet had not been favorable. We worked closely with Bridgit and noticed how changed and calm he had become after several visits with her. He is a transformed dog thanks to her patience and diligence I would certainly recommend F&F to anyone looking for a positive experience at the vets.

An amazing veterinarian clinic with people that truly care for your pets as much as you do. My cat recently had surgery with them to remove a mass on his face. They explained every step to me about the surgery and after care so I wasn’t completely clueless. They even called me to personally explain the tests results on the mass and had a detailed explanation on the chart work as well. They always give you multiple options for care so you can choose the best one that you feel more comfortable with or that are within your budget. My two cats are super healthy and happy thanks to fur and feather.

I like that they are very patient with my dog. The visit rooms are very relaxing and clean. They support the raw diet which was a big thing for us, not all veterinarian offices are okay with this.

I am soooo thankful and grateful for all the staff at Fur & Feather but specifically for Bridgid. She has truly changed the vet experience for my husky from the worst/scariest place on earth to a kind, warm, full of treats and cheese place! My husky struggles with severe anxiety at the vet and would always become reactive aggressively and no other vet wanted to work with us. Other vets have yelled at me for "not training him" and made me feel like a bad owner. On the contrary, Bridgid worked with us every session and I have noticed a tremendous difference in Zeke's behavior and attitude every time we attend the vet now. What I loved most was they never pushed or forced Zeke to do anything he didn't want to do or cause any more trauma. With a little bit of help of anti-anxiety medications and a lot of help from the staff, vet visits are no longer painful for either of us. Truly recommend them to any pet owner who struggles with a reactive, anxious, upset pup. They will not give up on your pup!
