How to Save Money at Veterinary Wellness Center of North Canton

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Love Love Love Dr Funk!! My 100 lb shepherd Gregor was itching and licking so bad that he licked his paws raw. Dr Funk fixed him right up. He walked in and said hello, Gregor gave him a big kiss as he stooped down to look at him. Within an hr of our visit he was 75 % better and two hrs later he stopped licking all together. Anytime any of our fur babies have ever had a problem Dr always comes to the rescue. Dr Larson and Dr Hart are also great, but Dr Funk is our go to!! Just ask Gregor!

Dr. Funk has been amazing. My overall experience with this vet has been fantastic. They prioritize the well-being and happiness of animals, providing them with the best medical care and attention. They listen to the concerns of pet owners and they treated my animal with kindness and respect.

Normally a patient at their Green office. We had an appointment this morning at their N Canton office. They decide to cancel it in an hour’s notice due to the x ray machine being down. Something about floors being remodeled?!? Told us to come in at 3:30. Which was fine as Mondays are the only weekday I have off. Get another call after 11 saying they are unable to schedule anything today. The appointment was made a week ago. If you were not going to be able to see patients that needed x-rays then your office should have made arrangements prior for a backup plan. This is a practice that when we were a new patient required a DOWN PAYMENT in order to schedule a visit at their Green office. Funny, how your office can call off an appointment an hour prior?!? Called back to Green explained to them the issue - can they squeeze us in ANYWHERE today since it’s the only weekday I have off? Nope. Basically told to pound sand. So sorry. If your (related) office made the mistake then you should accommodate people that had appointments that day. Not everyone can make it to your office hours of 9-6. My dog can’t walk and more than likely will have to have surgery based on the emergency vet’s exam. This was supposed to have been a follow up. We spent a lot of money on exams and meds this past year at the Green location over a respiratory illness which basically resolved itself. In addition to routine visits and vaccines. Oh, and when I went to pick up my records in Green- not a single person in the waiting area in the middle of the afternoon. Your receptionist thought it was funny when I said “it’s busy in here”. Sorry, my dog and I are not important to you. What an uncaring practice!

Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. They always treat my dog with care and love. As a pet-owner, they always educate me very well.

If i could give zero stars I would. I took my dog in (to the Green location) because he seemed like he was in some sort of distress (I thought he had eaten something and maybe had a blockage). I Walked him back to get x-rays. Doctor came back and showed me x-rays that showed "nothing" wrong. at the end of that conversation, she mentioned "by the way, he's doing this sort of scooching thing" I went around the corner and my dog was paralyzed in his back legs and couldn't move them. They also said he bit someone (my dog has never bit anyone or even growled at anyone). They must have hurt him when they put him up for the x-ray and paralyzed him. After two emergency vets they explained he would need back surgery costing over 10,000 dollars. We had to put him down. Our perfectly healthy 7 year old sweet boy. We have since never received a card or call with condolences. I may be seeking for reimbursement for the cost.
