How to Save Money at Jaax Veterinary Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We've been going to Dr. Jaax for several years now. The whole office is great. Dr. Jaax is amazing with my cats - she truly cares and has a wealth of knowledge and experience. I love that she offers telehealth/virtual services on most evenings/weekends. Virtual appointments have been helpful in the past with an anxious kitty when I wasn't sure if it was worth putting her through the stress of a car ride and vet visit. Recently, they saved my sanity and probably cat's life when one of my cats was admitted to the emergency vet late on a Friday night. He was given a scary diagnosis and the ER wasn't sure he would make it through the weekend. I scheduled a call with Dr. Jaax for the next day. She talked with me about options and suggested some additional tests to get more information. The test results gave a more positive prognosis and after follow up visits with Dr. Jaax and changes in medication, he's now doing great. Having that call and getting Dr. Jaax looped in quickly on his issue and care made a huge difference in his treatment and outcome. I'm so grateful for her help and that she offers and encourages use of the virtual services.

I love Jaax Veterinary Hospital! Dr. Jaax is amazing — she’s taken care of my Goldens and always makes them feel so comfortable. She’s so smart and always seems to figure out what’s going on right away. Her staff is just as great, super friendly and welcoming every time we come in. I wouldn’t take my dogs anywhere else!

They offer a wonderful service and are a great community based business. They also have a very good reputation in the local vet community as I received the recommendation from OAR ( Ohio Alley Cat Rescue) back in 2022 when I became a first time pet owner. There have been occasions where appt times have run long but I'd rather wait and receive the doctors full attention than to be rushed in and out of the clinic. I've also noticed that the doctor is well attuned to the sensitivities of animals and the sense of trust that they require. There's also a welcoming vibe in the waiting area where you will be greeted by a couple of cats and sometimes a human as well. If you live in the general area this would be a business worth supporting!

Today was our first visit. I felt comfortable as soon as I walked in the door. All the staff are super nice people, plus a couple of friendly "in house" cats, one stopped by to say hello. I mainly came in for my cat, Bébe to get his vaccines. He also had some big hair mats that were worrisome to me and definitely uncomfortable for him. Dr. Jaax is great! I immediately liked her. It was obvious upon meeting her, she's all about the animals, which means the most to me. She's a kind, competent and caring vet with a good sense of humor, too. Without too much protesting on his part, she sat on the floor with Bébe and proved herself to be a pro at removing his hair mats. I'll be bringing in my other cat soon for his vaccines. Their pricing for care is very reasonable. I'm happy to have found Jaax Veterinary Hospital and so is Bébe Cat😊
