How to Save Money at InstaVet Urgent Care & Wellness Animal Hospital - LIC Queens Pet Surgery Medical Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Newer clean vet office that we used for the first time in an emergency. They had availability to get our cat in right away and assist. Staff has been welcoming and great. Doctor Kim was very informative on the steps they were going through and they send a quote to you for approval on treatments they plan to do. Prices are what they are in an emergency situation, so that is what pet insurance is for as well. Good experience and knowledge so far at Instavet. Main communication can be handled through their text system. Questions/prescription info/etc.

I took my cat after 1 day of having pupils showing different sizes. I explained the the doctor that I used a pet ear cleaning solution and an ear mite drops - brought both in. I also explained that a year earlier, my cat had ataxia (losing balance) and was diagnosed with otitis media/vestibular disease. After a quick check of eyes and ears (there was fluid) and feeling the body, he prescribed 7 days of Clavamox, 2x day. My cat was alert when I took him. After first dose he became lethargic. Gave him 2nd dose 12 hours later at 10:45pm. At 3am I woke up to my cat yowling and in a position that looked like he was paralyzed. Took him to emergency at Schwarzman Animal Medical - horrible experience there too. The vet industry feels like it is all about money and rampant with incompetence. I got charged at InstaVet $139 for a “comprehensive exam” which it wasn’t. I emailed with pictures and videos - not one call from the doctor. If it were not for my cat’s foster mom, he would be dead right now. Shame on you. And Schwarzman Animal Medical Center is worse.

Could not recommend enough! We are new to the area and haven’t had a chance to find a primary care for our dogs yet! Insta vet got us right in for a paw emergency and the staff was so kind and friendly to my sweet shy puppy! Pricing was presented up front and nothing was done until we signed a form. It ended up being cheaper then estimated which is a plus! We even received a first time discount! The doctor and her tech were super nice and explained everything to the problem and treatment and prognosis. She even consulted an outside doctor for their opinion to make sure my puppy received the very best care! Very thankful they were there to help us in this urgent matter- even with all the NYC flooding!

To the InstaVet Team, I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for all the help you have done in trying to help my fur baby Roxy. Even tho we lost her today, I have to say you guys worked at your best to save her. I can't thank you enough. I appreciate it! ❤️ If anyone is looking for a Vet place to go to I HIGHLY RECOMMEND coming here. I drove an hour just so that my dog could get the care she needed and this team exceeded that. They are genuinely understanding, thoughtful, honest and loving. From the receptionist team to all the Specialist who made us feel welcomed and showed true compassion, this is the place to take your loving pet.

Based on my experience last night, I can say that I loved the place and the service. I had to take my baby for an emergency since she kept vomiting with blood. I felt that all my concerns were answered and all the tests I wanted were performed. The vet actually spent her time explaining to me everything related to what was going on! I truly appreciated that, I never felt rushed. My pet is now doing better and I’m glad I found this place. THANK YOU! 😃 Will definitely recommend this place to everyone! 🐾
