How to Save Money at Ramtown Animal Hospital of Howell

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We've been taking our cat, Helena, here when she was diagnosed with stage 4 bartonella. During our visits, the vet has been very helpful and takes care of her whenever we bring her in. She's gone as far as to have given our cat free fluids while she had a high fever and free oxygen when she had trouble breathing. Just wanted to say thank you to Doctor Nabila and the staff, who are very friendly and wonderful.

Dr. Nabila Demian & team has taken the BEST care of Puck since we first started going there in November 2020. Puck has had TWO surprise surgeries- both by Dr Demian as well as his neutering and back dew claw removal. Each time the experience has been as pleasant as possible for Puck & I. The most recent time the Dr stayed open well past close to do surgery as we were leaving in vacation that night. Dr Demian is always willing to give me a write up of the expense before the procedure starts & she accepts the Care Credit card! We appreciate Dr Demian and staff SOOO much and are so happy we found them. Pictures: back dew claw removal & papillomavirus removal from ear.

This practice is disorganized and inconsiderate bordering rude. The worst experience there was when my dog had to be put down. They made us wait a ridiculous amount of time, my heart breaking the entire time. They didn’t have one ounce of compassion for what was happening either, the staff went on gossiping about various topics the entire time. To top it off, I received the WRONG NAME CARD on the dogs ashes. Was it really even my dog? (Who actually knows). I asked them about ten times to send me a new placard for the box, and each time they said they would and then never followed up. I even went in person to ask and again, they never followed up, so after the tenth time I quit asking. This place is the worst and also smells horrible. I wish I could give this place negative stars for that whole experience. Update: in response to the owners comment I publish two photos providing evidence that this occurred at Ramtown Animal Hospital. We are not the Waldman Family (wrong) and my pets name is spelled wrong and the owners name on the card is incorrect. I just hope that I received ashes from my dog… but this couldn’t be confirmed.

After a long day I came home on Saturday after 3pm and my poor cat scratched its eye so bad that it almost looked like the eye was out of place. It was scary. Within minutes my vet referred me to another vet hospital over a hour away. I called This office and was amazed .... they saved not only my cat but me. They stated come right now and when I walked in the office they brought us right in a room. My little one had to have emergency surgery that night. The doctor and her team was amazing and very compassionate. The doctor explained all options. I can't say enough about how great they are. 100 STARS !!!! THANK YOU !!!

Edited to add response to rude staff. My husband and I paid you $2,000 for Max’s care and have receipts. Maybe you should stop overcharging. We took our pet to another vet, had the same service and paid less than half your cost. You were trying to push surgery on us so you could make more money and we refused. You claim to be a luxury vet but are an unorganized office with an unprofessional staff and that place is always a mess and smells.
