Vets on the Hudson

I have been using Vets in the Hudson for my dog and my cat for just over a year now. I switched over from a popular vet in the southeastern Bergen County (fort Lee Cliffside Park Fairview) area. When my dog was very sick on a rainy Sunday, the associate rudely and callously told me to take her to Hoboken. Enter Google search and up appeared vets on the Hudson. From the initial conversation the care and concern over the phone was enough for me to want to visit them. They found an appointment within 2 hours so they saw my dog. Since then I've had nothing but great experiences by a professional, courteous, and friendly staff. Dr. Gjokaj is phenomenal. She's extremely knowledgeable, shows a lot of compassion and concern and I don't see myself ever having to go elsewhere to find the perfect vet for my fur babies. Oh and the rates are extremely reasonable. I HIGHLY recommend Vets on the Hudson.

Our Cat Paulie had bladder stones. Dr. Gjokaj and the whole team were so caring and supportive throughout the whole process. It was a difficult time for us ,as we had just moved to NJ . We know now that Vets on The Hudson is the most trusted Clinic in our Area, they made us feel at home and they helped us from A to Z . We were well informed about everything that was going on. They even helped us find the best hospital for our cats inpatient care. The inpatient hospital told us that they had never received a patient that was so well taken care of before showing up to rehab. I would definitely recommend them to anyone who has a pet.Knowledge, experience and the best TLC for our Cat Paulie. 🐈‍⬛😎THANKS AGAIN TO THE WHOLE GANG AT VETS ON THE HUDSON🫶🏻😸

My boyfriend and I were looking for a new vet for our 9 year-old cat and 1 month old kitten after we moved from NYC. I am so so grateful that we stumbled upon this place! Everyone here (the office assistants, vet techs, and Dr. Gjokaj) are amazing and reached beyond my expectations! They answer any and all of my questions thoroughly and compassionately, and trust that I can be a little obsessive over my cats' health, they've never made me feel bad about it! Dr. Gjokaj explains your pets treatment plan for that appointment and any future appointments (since I have a kitten, this has been very helpful). They also show you an itemized bill before they charge you or do anything to your pet, and explain each charge thoroughly (a really positive experience I hadn't had with my previous vet). My 9 year-old cat Foo Foo is an ex-shelter cat I adopted a couple years ago. She is extremely sweet, but she gets very nervous and skittish around new people. If someone comes on too strong or if things get too loud - she immediately starts hiding (or shaking). However, she's never acted this way here, no matter what kind of care/tests she's getting. She's always come home in a good mood like the sweet kitty she is! (even after blood work). Our 1 m/o kitten Gohan is adorable, but a huge drama queen. We found out he had ear mites, and he was not thrilled about the cleaning or treatment process. Luckily, the staff at Vets On The Hudson picked up on this, and treated him quickly and affectionately. They are always so sweet to him even though he can be a little difficult! You can tell that everyone here loves what they do and they truly get to know each pet and accommodates to each of their needs and personalities! I would recommend them to everyone looking for a vet/ thinking of switching to new one! They are the best!

First of all, the facility is clean and beautiful! They are able to do x-rays, ultrasounds, labs on site and have an internal medicine doctor available. There is ample free parking in front of the hospital. Also an easy appointment booking system on their website, which I appreciate! Secondly, Dr. Gjokaj and her team, especially her assistants Viviana and Grace who have attended to my beloved cat and dog, are amazing. You can tell they not only care deeply for their patients, but are also adept clinically. Dr. Gjokaj was able to diagnose the problems in both my fur babies and would take the time to go over a care plan in understandable layman’s terms. She and her assistants are very transparent in the plan and cost so there are no surprises. She both emails and calls with regard to diagnostic results which I appreciate because it’s easier for me to digest and remember. They also text a few days after visits to follow up on how the pets are doing! I am so grateful to have found this team because as Dr. Gjokaj has been able to catch disease-onset early, I am able to make changes in my fur babies’ lifestyle to help improve their well-being. And their well-being means everything to me! I found this practice when I was living in NJ and have since moved away but am willing to travel the 30 minutes for my fur babies to receive excellent veterinary care! My experience with this vet, I’m sorry to say, has been tragically horrific! I took my baby girl, Lucky, a nine year old tabby, for a check up at this place on Saturday December 9th, because I live in North Bergen and the location was very convenient to me. My kitty’s regular vet was located in Hoboken, and she’d gone there a few weeks ago but they couldn’t examine her because she was too stressed out and aggressive at the time. She’d seemed a bit “off” for the past few days before 12/9 and had lost some weight, so I decided to try them out and have them examine my baby girl. What a mistake! They had to sedate her because she hates going to the vet and becomes very aggressive. They then took her to another room for bloodwork and x-rays. Meanwhile, I was told by one of the staff members that the results of the x-rays would come back in a couple of days and that the doctor would speak to me about them and interpret them, since the jargon in them is too technical to understand if you’re not a vet. After about a half hour, they returned my kitty to me and later the doctor came in and gave me the diagnosis from the bloodwork. Supposedly, her liver enzymes were extremely high, and the x-rays showed a huge lump in her abdomen area, that the vet said was causing her a lot of pain. There was no mention, though, of what the treatment and or meds should be for these conditions; just that I would need to bring her back in for an ultrasound for further evaluation. No mention of pain management to help her cope with all this pain that she had; and no mention about treatment or meds for the supposedly elevated levels of liver enzymes. When I reached out to them about this, they addressed the pain by offering to give me more of this med I had for her from her previous vet that was to sedate her a little prior to future visits to the office. Was that the only pain medication available for cats? Is it even pain medication? It was my understanding that it was really to calm her down before vet visits. What about the treatment for the elevated liver enzymes? Was that even treatable? What would be the game plan? No mention of this whatsoever after the diagnosis. When I brought her home, I noticed right away that she looked really weak and frail - a very different cat from my kitty, from the one that first went in for a checkup, but since she’d been sedated, I thought that maybe that was the reason and that once the sedation wore off, my baby would be back to her old self. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. Her health began to deteriorate rapidly and was in such severe pain that I couldn’t pick her up or move her or anything for the next three or so days because I could see how much she was suffering. She could no longer eat at all because she was too weak to do so, and I would feed her a few sips of chicken broth a day at first and eventually she couldn’t even stomach that. The results from the x-rays were emailed to me that Monday afternoon but there was no call from the vet, as I had been promised, to interpret them, and so I read them but had no clear idea of what any of it meant. I decided to get pet insurance immediately, as that vet visit cost me $2,000 out of pocket, and reached out to the office when they were open again that Tuesday, so they could send me the exam records, something the insurance company needed in order to process the application. The office told me that they would have to check with the vet on that. Can you imagine?! I then called my kitty’s regular vet at Hoboken Animal Hospital, for the notes they had on my girl, so I could at least present that to the insurance company. They sent it to me within minutes! What a difference! I could tell , though, that the end was near and provided hospice care at home to my baby girl for ten days as I saw her slipping away during this painful and heartbreaking time. My girl passed away on Tuesday, December 19th, ten days after that fateful visit to that vet office; may her beautiful soul Rest in Peace. 😭🙏👼🪽❤️
