How to Save Money at Animal Clinic Of The 4 States

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We took our new dog, Breezy, acquired from the Joplin Humane Society there for a mandated wellness check. Everyone was friendly and professional, genuinely cared about our dog, answered questions and made numerous suggestions for getting us and her up to speed in our home. Haven't had a vet since Main Street Pet closed last year but will definitely be returning here.

I was referred to this clinic by a dear friend who passed away a couple years ago. He really raved about how well they treated his animals. So I decided to give them a try for my dog and cat. I have had a really good experience with them. I have taken both my dog and cat in the past. Unfortunately my beloved dog of almost 12 years passed away of an enlarged heart/ murmur back in December of 2022 throughout his treatment I was really happy with the way the doctor and staff treated us knowing we only had a precious amount of time left with him. They did what they could to keep him comfortable til it was his time to pass. I recently got 2 new puppies of the same breed and because I had such a good experience with my cat and dog I immediately decided I wanted to use them again for my new loved ones. You can tell how great this clinic is by the fact that they have been booked for weeks and have had limited availability. When I couldnt get into them and told them I needed immediate attention for my new puppies they were quick to recommend me to some who give me the temporary care I needed until I could get into them I really appreciated the fact that they still tried to help with what I needed by giving me another option until they could get me in. Dr Steinbach was able to examine both my pups and determine that they had a congenital condition that would need attention very soon, this was something that had been missed by the other vet office when they had completed an examination. I feel very fortunate that the doctor was able to catch this early on and give me options on how to correct so that my precious babies could be comfortable going forward. Thank you for all that you and your clinic does we appreciate you! I would definitely recommend this clinic to anyone!

I am very particular about how my pets are treated -- they are my babies. These folks really go out of their way to make the visit as quick and painless as possible. I only went to this vet because my old vet closed and these guys had the soonest available appointment. I think I found my new permanent vet though.

This is the first vet I've found that has package deals and takes monthly payments! They are friendly and efficient. They assisted me when I had to put down my Coocoo cat. They were kind and took care of everything! They took care of my first new kitten when I got her a year ago all her vaccinations and her spay we're covered in the package. This year my newest kitten has gotten on his package getting his vaccinations and preparing for being neutered when he gets old enough. They treat cats and dogs and their pricing is fair.

I was so very disappointed in my experience with this clinic, especially after reading all the wonderful reviews. We are relatively new to this area and so we have not established care with a vet yet since our move. Our dog has been experiencing some very concerning acute issues and we’ve been trying to get her in with a vet. I spoke with Nichelle who told me if I put $150 deposit down over the phone and was able to get my dog there by 10:30 this morning that they could get me in and this was after putting me on hold to check with the doctor to make sure that that was OK. I asked her if it would be OK to call her right back after checking with my husband to be sure he would be able to bring her in or should I go ahead and give her the deposit to save our spot. She said it would be fine to call back. I called back one minute and two seconds later according to the time on my phone and spoke Nichelle, again matter fact, she had told me to specifically ask for her. She then told me she was unable to get me in after all. That she had given my spots up to other my spot up to other people. I asked her why she did not tell me that that was a possibility and she refused to explain it. She then told me she wasn’t going to talk to me anymore and that I should just call around. I would never ever ever recommend a place like this, regardless of whether or not we are already patients at their clinic the thought that she would treat anybody like this is so disappointing to me. I can’t say I would even trust the care that they would give if that’s how they treat people over the phone. Apparently somebody else gave them $150 quicker than I did and that was more important than keeping their word.
