How to Save Money at Alpine Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We absolutely adore Alpine Animal Hospital and highly recommend them as care givers (veterinarians) for your most beloved furry friend. Dr Bailey and Dr Duchow have taken care of our Great Pyrenees for over 28 years. I cannot say enough good things about how we are treated by all the staff at Alpine. I thank them for all they do.

I recently needed to get a second opinion after receiving a diagnosis for my cat and was unsatisfied with the direction and overall lack of information from my own vet. Upon a high recommendation from a close friend, I sought some advice from Dr Bailey. She not only provided some invaluable information, but also recommended an alternative medication to what my usual vet prescribed. This alternative turned out to be a godsend as my cat could not stomach the one prescribed by the original vet. Unfortunately Alpine is a bit too far for me to visit on a regular basis, but if I lived closer there is no question Dr Bailey would be my vet of choice. I have highly recommended her to my family and friends in the Spokane Valley area. She is both knowledgeable and empathetic.

I think our family has been going to Alpine Animal hospital for about 30+ years. We have had many four legged friends and have always been super happy with Alpine Animal Hospital. Our main Veterinarian is Dr. Tawnie Bailey but if she is not available we totally trust all of the other doctors at the office. If you are looking for a Doctor for you four legged family member a highly recommend Alpine Animal Hospital. The entire staff is just AMAZING!!

Are dog Cooper was dying, we got confused with the Alpine Hospital and the Alpine emergency Vet care. We pulled up to the Alpine Hospital and a vet assistant came out and said that they were closed, I said I just called and you're waiting for us, the assistant said you need the emergency Vet they are a block that way, my husband in tears said I think he is dead can you just see if he has a heart beat " No you have to go to the emergency " my husband in a pleading voice can you just check ...again she said no go to the emergency...When Your children are your pets and they literally dying in front of you, the last thing is a uncaring veterinary practice....by the way he was Dead..Thank you Kath for your concern and checking on my husband and myself..please praise the young lady who came to the door to let us know you were closed... and we were at the wrong hospital

We have been clients at Alpine Animal Hospital and specifically of Dr. Bailey's (although other vets have been great when we needed them) for 18 years. She and her staff have shown nothing but the utmost professionalism and kindness toward us and our pets during this time. I understand that we are all emotionally invested in our pets and their health. We have had to make some tough decisions and have been very grateful for the clearly communicated information on options, cost and quality of life for our loved ones. I certainly can't speak about others experiences but it says a lot to me that the staff and customer base are loyal and recommend Alpine Animal Hospital to their friends and family--as do we. My dogs will always have Dr. Bailey as their vet!
