How to Save Money at Animal Health Center At Weston

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

A shady and ridiculously expensive business! In December 2020, I took my 10 week old puppy Brunch for an appointment here. She had been throwing up for two nights, and had diarrhea during the day. Back then it was drive by service, so I drove Brunch there during the middle of the day. They said they needed X-rays to determine if there was anything stuck in her body and informed me it would take a few hours, with results coming back the next day. Guess how much the X-rays cost...$200, $300? NOPE, it was $1000 dollars. Yes I kid you not, $1000 dollars. Of course I would do anything for Brunch as she is my first dog so I obliged, as I was afraid there might be something seriously wrong with her. I took brunch back around their closing time, anxiously awaiting the results of the X-rays the next day. Well tomorrow morning they called me and informed me that they could not find anything in the X-ray scans. They claimed that there was food that was blocking the imaging, and recommended another round of imaging that would cost at least $700. This time I refused as I feel like I got scammed entirely. Two more days pass and Brunch recovered fully without any medication. I would not recommend this place to ANYONE as they scammed me out of $1000, saying that dog food got in the way of their imaging which is just laughable. For better service, go to Weston lakes animal hospital. This place is extremely shady and are EXTREMELY happy taking your money without providing any kind of care for your pet.

Not sure if I came here on a bad day but I’m really unimpressed with this office. I had a 10:30am appointment and didn’t see Dr. Cordova until 12:10pm… There was no communication about the delay which left me feeling very frustrated. Our meeting was 10mins long for me to receive the information that there’s nothing this office can do for me at this time which I kind of knew, my dog has mast cell tumor in his foot but I wanted a referral and maybe a second opinion. I thought they would at least take some notes about my dog or add any information to his file but no. They proceeded to give me a business card and when I asked if they are going to forward my records over to the referred center they said oh well you have them right? You can send them over, nothing changed. So what did I just pay $88 for? A business card. I could have just called for that. Actually I did. And left a voicemail and no one got back to me so I called again for an appointment. I feel scammed and will not be back.

I will be forever grateful with you. Everyone is nice, they actually focus on your pet and want the best for it and you. My dog Corina just passed and they took care of everything, they were all so kind and supportive. They actually felt our pain. Thank you for sending me her paw prints and pieces of her hair, this will help us bring closure to our family, it was a beautiful and unexpected gift. Thank you, thank you, thank you. If you choose them, your pets will be in great hands 🧡🌈

Dr. Cordova and his staff have been taking care of my dog, Murphy, for nearly 14 years. The staff is caring, sensitive, and flexible. They will work with me to accommodate my work hours so Murphy is seen asap. Dr. Cordova always informs me of the best options to keep Murphy healthy and happy. I feel the prices are fair as well. I highly recommend this veterinary practice.

I've been going to Dr. Cordova's for about 9 years since I got my first pet. I have 3 now and I won't take them anywhere else. Dr. Cordova and his staff are caring people and excellent professionals. I have referred many friends to him and all of them are very happy. 100% recommended!
