How to Save Money at ACCESS Specialty Animal Hospital - Palm Beach County

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

On Tuesday at 2AM, my wife and I had to bring in Callie for an emergency visit after showing signs of being extremely unwell. The ACCESS staff immediately took her in for assessment on a stretcher. Unfortunately, we were given devastating news shortly after. We made the difficult decision to not prolong her suffering. The staff were kind, patient, and informative throughout the entire process. Nothing about that process was easy or happy, but I'm so grateful to have had a vet available at such a late (early?) hour. We were given an opportunity to say goodbye to Callie. If not for ACCESS, we would have woken up that morning to a dead dog who had suffered through the night. I cannot fully express how thankful I am for what they gave us. I want to mention a few things to contradict some of the 1-star reviews I've seen. Once we had made our difficult decision about Callie, the staff spoke with us about options for cremation and urns while we waited. I found nothing wrong, nor inappropriate with this. I would not have wanted to do it later. We picked up Callie's ashes today and the urn is lovely. It also came with a paw print and a little bit of Callie's fur. Regarding complaints of being gouged: we were asked for a $850 deposit when we arrived. I was told that anything that wasn't used would be refunded. I've been refunded $319.40, making the grand total for Callie's emergency assessment, stabilization, euthanasia, and cremation $530.60. If that's more than you can afford, I can understand. But I don't at all feel gouged for the attention and care Callie (and my wife and I) received. If you're unfortunate enough to also have to look at reviews at 2AM, I'm sorry. I hope this helps.

I loved this place so much, my 2 month old pup broke her jaw and they attended her the very next morning and kept her overnight 🙏 literal angels! I drove from Miami to go here and it was worth it trust me they are the best and the nurses and doctors really care! I even got texted personally by a nurse (Kate) some updates and pics of my little girl running and being well taken care of when I was super worried about how she was doing in there. I love them so much, will always recommend them to my friends as my favorite thing is they have a 24hr ER and also didn’t make me wait at all! thanks to them I have peace of mind and my little girl is on a fast road to recovery ❤️‍🩹🙏 thank you for all you guys do!! it means the world to me. real animal lovers u can tell!

I am so grateful for the team at Access. We had to bring our baby in for a medical emergency. They took great care of her! Everyone was very kind and caring during the whole process. Our baby had to have surgery and they allowed us to come to visit her prior to and after her surgery while she was in the ICU. The Drs were very caring and were very informative throughout the whole surgical process and the aftercare. It was a bit on the costly side, but it was well worth it when I got to pick up my baby and she was almost back to her old self. Even after bringing her home, they were available for any questions or concerns that we had. During the discharge process, Vanessa was amazing and was able to get us in in between her other appointments so that we would not miss work meetings. Myself and my family are forever appreciative for all that ACCESS did for my baby.

My baby was dying, we knew it. It was the weekend and we needed someone to help him pass. ACCESS was the by far the best price I could find, for what we wanted. (I was mind blown how expensive it is to help your dog pass away out here!) This place, was AMAZING!!! They had a special room for us and let us take our time with him. They gave us space and shared compassion. They had great options in the case you wanted ashes. I am thankful we choose to go here!

My dog Mattis had a sarcoma. My vet referred me to Access and it was the best decision. They were very attentive from the moment I got there. Got into my room quick and did not wait long to be seen. Surgeon was great at explaining and being available to have the procedure done soon and to help dress his bandage every time Mattis needed a follow up. Very impressed with the level of professional from the whole staff and very clean. Highly recommend.
