How to Save Money at Pine Forest Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I am very sad and disappointed with this place. I took my 12 year old dog in this morning to be put down because she had cancer and was blind and it cost me almost $400 the way I see it is they took advantage of me, a poor human being, who is very emotionally destroyed after losing my mother almost 2 years ago, and also losing another dog a month after I lost my mother, what has this world come to? Do people not show remorse or any kind of leniency or sympathy??? Put yourself in my shoes and have your loved ones die in front of you especially my mother and then tell me how you feel. I pick up my ashes for my baby girl next week and from now on, I will only go to scenic Hills veterinarian hospital. Because when I had my big St. Bernard mix put down they only charged me $25 and they waived all of the other fees, including the examination visit fee I’m very disappointed and heartbroken 💔

Treated our dog for severe diarrhea. Kept her an entire day and said they didn’t know what was wrong. $700.00 for no answers and had a 9lb dog so drugged she couldn’t walk. Wish I could have left no stars. Corporate run money machine.

About a week ago I rescued a feral kitten from some dogs. The kitten was dragging its hind legs. I decided she'd have a name (Shadow) and a home, even if only for a short time, and not have to suffer. I took her to Pine Forest Animal Clinic, where I have taken my own pets for more than 20 years, and they added her to my annual appointment for my cat. They were exceptionally kind and caring. We had to let Shadow go, but she could not have spent the time with kinder people. A couple days later I got a sympathy card, hand written, from the clinic. They always do excellent care, but I was especially impressed by the compassion and good care for this tiny baby under horrible circumstances.

I just recently lost my best friend due to old age and multiple health problems. He had been with me ever since I was in elementary school and I’m now a senior about to graduate. He was everything to me and Pine Forest understood that and respected it. I rushed him to their services as soon as I could and they treated him with such care as they told me what the best move was. Of I course I didn’t want to, but I knew it needed to be done and they offered so much sympathy and reassurance for me. They were very kind and even sent me a few pieces (about 1-2) of mail saying that he was a “sweet baby” and indeed he was! I just finally got my best friend’s ashes back today and I couldn’t be happier! They put his name on the box, spelled his name correctly, put our last name on it (as well as his first) to really show he was an important part in our family, and even wrapped up his box in plastic. The box for his ashes is also very beautiful as well with smooth wood and a very pretty design on the top! They put so much care into my little dude and I just couldn’t be happier to have gone to them! Thank you all very much for having so much care, reassurance, and sympathy!❤️
