How to Save Money at Animal Hospital of Pensacola

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Always so kind and helpful. I’ve taken my dachshund and a few of my rats here and they’ve always taken amazing care of them. They took amazing care of Molly (pictured) when she needed to have a mammary tumor removed and to be spade. Additionally, I recently unfortunately had to take one of my rats to get euthanized and they were incredibly empathetic and supportive. They offered to make a clay mold of my baby Baby’s paws as well as gave me a vial of her fur (pictured). Not only that, but I just received a letter in the mail offering condolences from the staff (pictured). The letter was signed by so many people and even included ink prints of Baby’s paws. This meant the absolute world to me. They always call and do a follow-up after every appointment to make sure the kiddos are doing okay. Just an overall amazing place to take your fur children too, especially if you have small animals such as rats who need special veterinary care. Thank you all!

We were referred to AHoP by a family friend when we moved to Pensacola, sadly we made the mistake of moving to a vet closer to us and boy I regretted it all the way, their staff are great but the vets are not....Pandemic made it a bit tricky for us to come by but still we preferred even waiting outside for our baby. I love the convenience of 7 days 7am to 7pm. The staff are caring and always manage to squeeze us in for an appointment. We are glad to be back and with an addition to the family. Thank you for all your hard work and care.

My pets and I have been very happy here and we have been coming to Animal Hospital for years. They have convenient hours, beyond the normal 8 - 5. The front desk workers are AMAZING. They know you and your pets by name. The front desk workers are also extremely knowledgeable. They are SO MUCH MORE than "schedulers"!!! All the doctors and Vet Techs treat your pet with sensitivity. They never want a pup to be nervous. And, they remember the pups' names. I have 4 grown children and Animal Hospital feels like the caring pediatrician my kids had. They also utilize a very helpful app. I routinely order medicine using it. The app sends me reminders of upcoming needs, like shots, etc... This helps a busy working person. We also use their grooming service The groomers put cute bows and bandanas on the pups. More importantly, they don't keep the pups there all day, like some groomers. They get finished and text me. I REALLY appreciate that. However, if I am still at work, they will keep the girls until I get off.

I was very happy with the Animal Hospital of Pensacola and their care of my pet. Their staff is terrific and I love that they have extended hours. We were easily able to get an appointment on a Sunday. I feel like their prices were also fair.

The Animal Hospital of Pensacola's staff are very kind and polite people. They help with my kitten Dobby and preformed his leg amputation and made sure that I understood and comprehend exactly what I needed to do for his care. They also are open on the weekends! That's always a terrific thing! Most vet offices that I've been to are not open on the weekends and that can cause many problems for someone who has a pet emergency. They are a bit on the pricier side of the spectrum but honestly, their worth the visit, especially when they will take such good care of your babies.
