How to Save Money at Garbizo Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Drs. Jennifer and Kevin are very professional, caring and knowledgeable. All of the assistants are great and very helpful and always courteous. Everyone working there takes the time to answer questions and thoroughly explain things that I didn't understand. They also make a follow-up call the next day after an appointment to see how our pet is doing. This clinic is excellent on all things important for our pets. Thank you all.

Please click on the lowest reviews before choosing an animal clinic for your pet. The lowest I believe would be the most honest and truthful. Please see below: My dog went in for an exam, and her rabies shot. Yes, I did explain that I was unemployed, and I was just there for her yearly shot, not an exam. Before coming in, I advised the front desk of my situation, and they said no exam needed. I'm not surprised that all the girls said, in front of Dr. Garbizo, they didn't talk to me over the phone, but yet they keep notes on every call except that one.. they did not trust I would pay and had me pay up-front before my dog could be seen. After leaving, I realized that I forgot to show Dr. Garbizo a lump on my dogs neck, I called and asked the front desk if I could run in and show him. Yes, I could have for another office visit in which I just paid. And if he did a full exam the first time, he would have felt it himself. As of today (days later), I'm still going back and forth with them about how they can recharge twice in a week. They didn't care and continued to say I have to pay. With that said, I requested my dogs records and read their notes. They actually stated in those notes that they told me to come back at no charge on 9.5, but I didn't show up. If this was true, why would I be going back and forth about being charged twice, I would have ran in with my dog.. I've been going to this clinic for many years, Dr. Byron would never take advantage of people and see $$ before their pet. I'm looking forward to their response to this review as im sure they will match up to their disturbing notes. Attached is the lump that opened up quickly on my dog. They are not interested unless I repay days apart in full. I fully understand that their staff has to get paid. However, I just paid for a visit and had to pay again because I failed to mention the lump and Dr. Garbizo failed to notice it during my dogs exam. I also understand they don't work for free. However, it was overlooked during her exam, and I also forgot to mention it. *There did happen to be a truthful statement in my dogs records wich was; when I called to ask if I could run my dog back in and was then told another payment for the visit will have to be paid first, they put me on hold and stated to me that Dr. Garbizo said he is aware of my dogs small pink lumps (which you can't miss), and my dog has many. But then also stated there's nothing to worry about. Pictures don't lie her lump opened up quickly. These were shown to the desk and emailed to Dr. Garbizo, hours later, there has been no reply. _________________________________________ To the owners response: Reviews are meant to share a client's experience. Unfortunately, there are times that reviews can be untruthful. There are also times when owners have to defend their reviews. However, your defense was not expected. My review focused on actual events. Did I admit to forgetting to point out a lump that was not opened at the time? Yes. In no way did I focus on anything more than what occurred. However, you, as an owner, posted serious allegations and misleading information about a client of many years. A cat was even mentioned in your response. Please see below: I mentioned in the room that one of my rescue cats had been stolen and tracked down in Orlando. Do I owe anything for asking a question about a rescue cat's chip? Please advise via email or landline. My focus now should solely be on Sadie, who has healed nicely and not be focused on what took place and a continuation of this review. At this time, I will give potential clients the opportunity to read your response and judge for themselves; I will then remove this post. Lastly, we, as owners / managers, deal with upset clients on a daily basis regardless of what profession we are in. When this is faced, we learn how to de-esculate clients. Kristen was very respectful and, most importantly, showed great compassion for Sadie during her exam. Any client that allegedly speaks to staff members, as you stated, should be told not to come back.

Listens to your kitty problems and patience when kitty doesn't want to behave. It's great to have such nice and compassionate people to talk to. Still miss Dr Byron.

I was sad when Dr. Byron retired, but he has entrusted his practice to a wonderful husband-wife team with the Garbizos. I know my Dakota will receive the best care possible. Staff is also super friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.
