How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Excellent service, sweet to owners and pets. I visited them in need of an international health certificate for travel. They took care of everything relieving tons of stress. My Bichon Frise is now happy in Costa Rica ❤️

We took our Yorkie to this place on June 27th. She was having problems breathing. While waiting for the doctor, I was called up to the desk to pay a wellness bill. My mind was not settled on this problem as the bigger, more important problem needed our immediate attention. We left to go to another pet hospital that had an x-ray machine; leaving i told them to cancel the wellness program. Banfield Hospital did not have the facilities to handle this emergency. This should be called a clinic because you would expect a hospital to have an x-ray machine. Unfortunately, Chanel passed away on July 1. We never heard from Banfield, asking about Chanel's condition. We did hear from Banfield to pay the wellness plan. Four times within 3.5 weeks, Banfield keeps calling about paying for Chanel's wellness plan. 4 times I told them to take our name and number off the list. Chanel has passed away, so why should I pay for a bill. Every phone call brings back memories. Every phone call gets very emotional for us. But they haven't stopped calling. I told Banfield corporate, and I've told Banfield Margate to stop and take our name and number off the list. Have they stopped? No! I get told that I have to call corporate. I have told Corporate every time they call me. Joseph from corporate hung up on me 9n July 27th at 4:30 p.m. When you are so big that all you are concerned about is money, something is wrong. Your priorities are messed up. Margate says they can't call corporate. How does that happen? How can you not contact your boss? Something needs to happen, update the system, and make sure communication is working, but torturing your patients is out of control. I'm sure we aren't the only ones that this is happening to. Don't tell me your number concern is your pet when you don't ask about the pet. But you threaten to give this to a collection agency. So if Margate Banfield can't contact Corporate and we tell corporate to stop and take our names off, and nothing happens, who is controlling Corporate? Corporate needs to take our names off their list and quit harassing us, stalking us and bullying us during our time of grief. We aren't paying any bills because there shouldn't be any bills. We requested to be off the list in June. No services have been rendered. I don't recommend this place to anyone who cares and loves your pet like family. Because family doesn't treat other family members this way. What else can we do? Every time this is brought up, it brings back emotional memories 😢. Is there anyone at Banfield who cares?

We have been with this Banfield since we got our first dog so about 8 or 9 years. Until the last two appointments our experience had been rather good. However, this last appointment has me looking for a new vet. I usually do a drop off appointment for our two dogs. I find it is less stressful on them. In the past you check in fill out some paperwork and then within about ten min a vet tech comes out to ask any concerns and takes them back. They then call when the girls are done and you go pick them up. Today was not like this at all. First I check in and they take me to a room which seemed odd since I was dropping them off. I filled out my paperwork and then sat patiently with both my girls nervously waiting for the tech. At the 40 min mark I called the front desk and ask hey for a drop off appointment I’ve been waiting for like 40 min is there something wrong this has never happened. The front desk person named Sergio was short and said I’ll check and then hung up. Side note the room I was in I could hear everything from the front and the room next door and the vet area. So he said Room one is impatient and never went to do anything as you can hear all the doors open and close and all the conversations. I then hear a tech go into the room next to mine and get the dog for a drop off appointment. Normally this would have been like oh maybe I’m next except that person checked in 30 minutes after me and had only been waiting for the normal ten or so min. I waited another 5 min and nothing. So now I’m super mad, my patience is gone and my dogs had already been nervous wrecks so I get up and leave. I tell the text that the lack of communication and customer service is disappointing and I’ve never had anyone waste my time so badly with no communication. If they had just communicated any issues as to why I was waiting it would have been fine but to sit there for that long no water for my girls and no reason why I had to wait that long for a drop Off was ridiculous. So unless you have nothing to better to do than sit in a room all day waiting DO NOT go here.

Fantastic. From the moment you walk in, you feel welcome. The girls and doctor do a good job at making you feel at ease. They seem to love the animals. Kalli was awesome, I was really happy overall and will definitely make this one my new home

The staff are super sweet. You can tell they all have love for animals. They're also very informative. They took great care of my new puppy. I'll definitely continue with them. Sidenote: love the app which is convenient for making appointments and getting updates.
