How to Save Money at Ridge Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have been a client for approximately 12 years. The staff is always personable, accommodating, and knowledgeable. Dr. Yoder is always direct and explains things so we can make educated decisions for our pets health. They truly care for our pets and it shows.

Took my dog here because he was chewing and scratching like crazy so bad that he had several bald spots stated multiple times he hasn't had any signs of fleas and still it got dismissed as a flea allergy. Took him to another vets office and turns out he infact had a yeast infection. To make matters worse i brought a tiny kitten that was tossed out of a moving car begging for help to be denied i made an appointment but unfortunately she passed a day later when I called to cancel it i was asked if i wanted to cancel or reschedule and i explained she passed away the receptionist then says I'll remove it and the phone clicked as she hung up on me without an ounce of empathy

Riley is my bestfriend and she has seen me through a lot over the years and when she got sick I didn’t know what to do or where to turn. The first clinic I went to made us feel like we didn’t matter and my dog, who couldn’t even lift her own head didn’t matter…. When I took her to ridge I found compassion, I found a place where the people genuinely cared about my dog and my feelings. It wasn’t just my dog they cared about either, it was every animal that came in. I sat with Riles while she got some fluids and just watched…. I had never left Riley at a vets office before, let alone anywhere that wasn’t family, but after watching them and seeing them interact with other animals (without their owners) I felt safe and comfortable leaving my baby there. These two pictures are a couple days apart and if you have eyes you can see the difference…. I recommend this clinic to anyone who has fur babies. They won me over forever and I will forever be grateful for what they did for Riley.

Bad in every way. I could list all the reasons but would be here for days. She made my father cry, which is no small thing. My wife thinks she is nasty and for a women her age very petty and immature. My Mom gets mad because she hires people that don't know what they are doing. None of that matters to me. She just charges too much. She says it is the law but do a google search. There is only one law when it comes to lab tests. When our dog got a rash she did all these tests and found nothing. Charged us a lot of money. Down the street they said it was an allergic reaction, didn't need tests and it got it cleared up in 4 days.

I've come considered this my veterinarian for 4 yrs. I had an emergency 2 years ago....they refused to see my Tippy by the time I foumd out about the emergency in Dundee she died..last year I took my Minty in they had me waiting in the car for 4 hours be4 they brought paper work for me to sign so they could treat Minty. Today they refused me again for an emergency. If you ❤ your pets don't bring them here. When you need them they let you down. Please find people that care about animals.
