How to Save Money at VCA Newman Deland Animal Hospital - CLOSED

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

As a new patient my Ginger got a next day appointment. Everyone was extremely caring and loving to my injured fur baby. Newman is now my vet. Update: I’ve made appointments for Ginger twice in the last 6 months. Taking off work both times. Each time there was an emergency. With the new COVID restrictions you have to call from the parking lot to check in for your appointment. The receptionist puts you in hold without explanation and never picks up again. I had to ask other people in the parking lot what is going on. I can’t keep going there. I’ve had other problems there as well. Not worth going into. I will take my fur baby someplace else.

We have a 12yo Cavalier with heart murmur. Early this year we thought he would only make it a few weeks more. We took him to Newman's for the first time and they aggressively started treating the problem. Not only have they added a significant amount to his life but they have dramatically increased his quality of life. This is our go to place!

Absolutely WOW'D today with this place! Brought in my lab who's having some really bad allergies. They were able to get him in same day, the whole staff was so sweet and kind my dogs absolutely loved them, Brody came out so happy I could tell he was treated with nothing but love. The doctor was very knowledgeable, as well as the vet tech, they were EXTREMELY transparent with pricing and everything he needed. I felt like they were personally involved in him getting better and made good recommendations! So glad I was referred here, definitely give this place a try and you will not be disappointed!! Almost forgot, I brought my other dog with me and they came out several times to update me, give me a water a snack and also a bowl of water for my pup and some treats for him! Can't express how amazing they were today!

The receptionist, vet tech and the veterinarian at Newman’s seemed to be genuinely concerned about my dog. They were knowledgeable and friendly. I had my granddaughter with me when we took our dog Diamond. They were helpful in helping her understand what was going on with Diamond. I really appreciate the way they treated each of us during the visit and addressed all of our concerns.

Moved from 35 miles away and so had to switch from our vet that we have been going to for 13 years. Considered various locations and finally decided here. So far so good. Rates are a little bit higher than what we were accustomed to paying but the quality of care thus far seems acceptable with friendly, compassionate and interested staff. It’s nice that there are snacks, drinks, and coffee in the waiting room while you wait, as well as snacks for the four-legged friends. As an interesting aside, my daughter brought an abandoned cat here that was left at her doorstep that had a broken leg. Originally it was proposed by vet that the cat needed surgery, but on the day of the surgery, the vet called us and told us how much improved the cat was and that surgery was no longer necessary and that the cat was healing very well on its own. I view that as very honest and above board and and as a very positive sign of the integrity of this vet’s office. Other places may not of told you that, they may have just done the (now unnecessary)procedure and taken the $800 whether the cat needed it or not. How would anyone have known otherwise? I value honesty in those I have dealings with, and this vet earned my trust quickly for that reason.
