How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Suncoast Animal Clinic
Preventive care
Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.
Compare prescription pricing
Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.
Consider pet insurance
Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

Incredible staff. My reactive dog didn't even growl. Personable Friendly and kind absolutely love this Dr. Knowledgeable with reasonable prices. Thought my dog broke it's leg due to limping and not eating for 3 days, My Australian cattle dog would not let me even look at her paws. The doctor and staff charmed her. My cat had to be put down It was horrible but the staff made it easier, so supportive. Attentive, caring, bilingual, friendly

I can’t say enough positive things about Dr Lucena, the receptionist, & the vet techs at Suncoast Animal Clinic! They have been amazing with my new puppy during all of her vaccination appointments. She LOVES going to the vet, I don’t think she ever realized she was getting vaccines, she was too busy licking them and loving all of the attention they gave her! The staff is so personable and patient, always taking the time to answer any questions I had about my pup! Also, their pricing is beyond reasonable! Highly recommend!

It’s clear how much they truly love animals — they’re gentle, patient, and always take the time to make sure she feels comfortable and safe. I highly recommend them.

I normally do not leave negative reviews, but after losing two senior cats under the care of this clinic, I feel obligated to share my experience for other pet owners. With my cat Larry, I felt his condition was not treated appropriately and it ultimately took getting a second opinion from a neighboring veterinary clinic to get him on the medications he actually needed. At the time, because of his age and overall prognosis, I tried not to hold resentment and moved on. Unfortunately, I found myself in a very similar situation again with my cat Callie. For months, I brought Callie to this office repeatedly for chronic viral and respiratory-related issues that were continually treated with antibiotics alone. I requested senior bloodwork twice and was told it was unnecessary because she “seemed healthy.” As her symptoms progressed, I specifically asked about treatment for chronic feline herpes after her eye symptoms started and was repeatedly told it was not needed. When her respiratory issues worsened, I requested additional treatment options that were initially dismissed. Eventually, medication was agreed upon, but the prescription to the compounding pharmacy was never sent because the receptionist “forgot.” Considering the medication already would have taken about a week to arrive, this was devastating and became my final straw. I immediately took Callie to another veterinary clinic nearby because I remembered having a similar experience with Larry previously. The difference in care was night and day. The new clinic was extremely knowledgeable, hands-on, had proper diagnostic equipment in-house, and immediately started her on medications they felt she urgently needed, medications the previous clinic either did not carry or had told me were unnecessary. They also informed me that her chronic feline herpes had not been properly managed, and by that point she had become weak and lost significant weight. We were hopeful she would regain strength once treatment began, but unfortunately she passed away. I truly think the staff at this clinic are kind people, and this review is not directed at them personally. However, based on my repeated experiences, I do not feel confident in the level of veterinary care, diagnostic judgment, or follow-through provided here. Too many concerns were dismissed, too many things were missed, and I deeply regret not seeking another opinion sooner. In my opinion, this clinic may be appropriate for basic preventative care such as vaccines or flea/tick prevention, but I personally would not trust them with anything medically complex or chronic again. I only hope sharing this experience encourages other pet owners to advocate strongly for their animals and seek second opinions when something does not feel right.
