How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Safe Harbor Animal Clinic

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

Getting to Know Your Veterinarian

Experience

Ask whether the clinic has experience treating your specific type of pet, since care can vary between dogs, cats, and pocket pets.

Emergency Care Procedures

It’s helpful to understand how the clinic handles after-hours emergencies, including whether they provide emergency services or refer to nearby emergency hospitals.

Communication Preferences

Ask how the clinic communicates with pet parents, including updates, test results, and follow up questions.

Breed Specific Health Considerations

Some breeds may be more prone to certain health conditions. Early awareness can help with prevention and early treatment.

This place has been great. My Husky rescue Spike has had an ongoing ear issue for awhile. It was too tender for the doctor to be able to scope it. This morning we had scheduled sedation, an inspection & surgery if required. 3 different procedures & 3 different prices. I dropped Spike off at 8am and headed home. I got a call a couple hours later. Great news - they started with another inspection attempt and were successful. They were able to clean it up without sedation or surgery. I only paid for a follow up visit. Thank you Safe Harbor.

My senior dog needed her dew claw clipped badly. I haven’t taken her to a real vet for years. They took her in right away. Everyone was kind and gentle. I’m glad to have accidentally found this place and can give my dog the proper care she needs for now one.

Today we met a traveling doctor at safe harbor, Dr "A". She was fantastic even when delivering bad news based on xrays with recommendations for my dog. She didn't rush, didn't treat my dog as patient #10528 but talked to her and tried to ease her nervousness.;This was greatly appreciated. She recommended a sedative based on my dogs unwillingness to stay still on her back for the xray. They could have "man handled" my dog but the meds would reduced her stress. If Safe Harbor management was smart they'd hire her, she's the best vet I've been to in many years, highly recommend!! Revision. 3/3/26. Dr A has left and remaining vets are overrtaxed. MY issues are with the staff and being over charged TWICE. The last time was the end. They charged me $80 for an office visit stating price increase. When I asked why the person in front of me was charged under $60 they couldn't answer. Rip off going to find another vet. INTERESTING when I had her hips re x-rayed the radiologist said she did NOT have stage 1 hip dysplasia and the vet was wrong! My pet insurance was raised $35/month for nothing!!

This was the best Clinic I've been to. They're kind, funny, and knowledgeable. Definitely will recommend Safe Harbor to my friends and family. They treated my Havi mix for both ears being infected, a UTI and generalized blood work as he picked up worms at pet smart.
