How to Save Money at Bradenton Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Words can’t express how wonderful this office has been for us over the last 4+ years.I have an extremely vet anxious/ reactive German shepherd and I know that can be scary even for a seasoned vet, but they could not be more accommodating. It’s evident they are passionate about helping EVERY animal receive quality veterinary care, not just the easy ones - they even have a room with its own private entrance so we don’t have to walk through the lobby. Their prices are very fair, and every staff member has been kind and reassuring. They have always made us feel welcome. I can’t say enough how grateful I am for this office. Thank you BVH staff!!!

Very kind and understanding people at this office. We had a very difficult decision to make, and their empathy was practically visible from space. Off to that big meeting in the sky... RIP Lil Business. I'll see you when I get the call. Thanks Dr. Logas.

Been taking my cat here for almost a year. Dr. Massi is amazing and I highly recommend her. She truly loves my cat and does everything in her power to ensure he’s happy and healthy. My cat is acting like himself again and it’s thanks to her care that even with all of his health issues at 15 years of age, he is acting like a kitten.

On October 31, 2022 I had the worst morning a pet owner could experience. I woke up to one of my cats in horrible shape and my first thought was that the puppy got him. I called off work and went straight to an emergency vet. After 6 hours and an insane amount of money due to tests and whatnot we were sent home with a lot of medication. I was told that Odin had a bad infection and the reason he didn’t have to stay with them is because he’s able to still pass urine. November 1, 2022 I woke up to Odin in even worse shape and not alert or moving. Tears came to my eyes as I lifted him up and called around everywhere to find someone that could take us asap! Calling Bradenton Vet Hospital was the best experience ever. Although, a sad one. I’m glad I chose them! I was talking to the nicest, sweetest receptionist (I didn’t get her name my mind was else where) and told me to come in ASAP. When I walked in Odin was taken back immediately and I was brought into a room. Unfortunately I was already contemplating the worst. The tech and the Dr. walked in and told me that Odin had completely blocked and wasn’t doing great. I was told that the situation could have been fixed but it was likely this would happen again and I’d be in the same loop that I’m currently in now. With a heavy heart I had to make the choice to either pay an insane amount of money again for something that is temporary or make sure that he’ll never be in pain again and remain in my heart forever. Through this tough time they brought Odin into the room and let him spend his last moments with me before they came back and and the procedure started. I wanted to be there for him. I wanted him to see that I was there and not strangers. After, I made the decision to have him cremated and his ashes returned to me. The tech and the doctor were so sweet during the process and stayed with me until I was mentally ready to leave. They offered to make a claw paw prints for me so I can forever hold onto that. They were compassionate, caring, professional, and supportive. I can only imagine how great they are as a regular check up, vaccination spot. 100% recommended.
