How to Save Money at Inkwell Veterinary Emergency Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I can’t say enough good things about Inkwell Vet Clinic! The staff is incredibly friendly, compassionate, and helpful. They’ve been so kind and accommodating to my little dog, Tater, who we believe has intervertebral disk disease and has lost the use of her back legs. It’s been an emotional journey, and I’m trying everything I can to help her and avoid having to make the heartbreaking decision to put her down. Alie and the rest of the team have gone above and beyond—patiently answering questions, offering guidance, and making us both feel cared for every step of the way. Their empathy and dedication mean the world during such a difficult time. I highly recommend Inkwell Vet Clinic to anyone looking for a vet who truly treats your pet like family.

cannot recommend inkwell enough! our senior italian greyhound mix kingston broke two bones in his foot, our regular vet wasn’t able to see him right away so they referred us here. the staff at inkwell were all so kind. i was especially impressed with how patient they were with kingston as he does tend to be pretty anxious even when he isn’t injured. dr asciutto explained everything thoroughly & took the time to answer all my questions. all of the assistants & other staff were great as well. it is so comforting to know that we have such an incredible veterinary urgent care clinic here in fort collins 💓 thank you guys again!!

The veterinarian was extremely calm and demonstrated confidence in an emergency situation for my dog, Buddy. The staff was all very caring and supportive, and I felt at all times that Buddy was in good hands. I was grateful for the support for my dog, Buddy, after he experienced a traumatic and potentially life threatening event. I felt like my dog was in good hands. I greatly appreciated the compassion and genuineness of the Doctor and all of the staff.

⸻ We cannot say enough wonderful things about the team who cared for our dog, Lady, when she developed a painful corneal ulcer. From the moment we walked in, the front desk staff were warm, welcoming, and so efficient—they helped us get checked in quickly and treated us (and Lady!) with genuine kindness and compassion. The vet techs were phenomenal—gentle, knowledgeable, and incredibly reassuring throughout the entire process. They handled Lady with so much care and clearly explained each step they were taking, which really helped ease our nerves. And the lead veterinarian was simply outstanding. Their expertise was immediately apparent, and they took the time to explain Lady’s condition in a way that was thorough, compassionate, and easy to understand. They walked us through the treatment plan and made sure all our questions were answered without ever making us feel rushed. Lady is already on the mend, and it’s entirely thanks to this incredible team. Their professionalism, empathy, and dedication to high-quality care truly stood out. We are beyond grateful, and we’ll be recommending this clinic to everyone we know. Thank you for taking such amazing care of our girl!

Leo and I went here during their soft open, and the staff was nothing but kind and understanding. I truly felt he got the best care here, and I finally got the peace of mind i’ve been wanting for years. Leo has had bladder stones which have gone undiagnosed for too long, and we caught it early enough I can get him the care he needs, and more importantly, those stones gone! I truly cannot express how much I appreciate everything Dr. Nina Pappert and the rest of the amazing staff did. Nina took the time to recommend some affordable clinics in my area to get Leo’s Cystotomy and reassured me with some personal anecdotes of her own. I went in expecting to get routine work done, and to help out an emerging clinic train their staff, and I came out knowing the reason my cat has had urinary troubles for years. I can’t thank everyone here enough! There’s also the bonus that leo got to enjoy a car ride with the windows down!
