How to Save Money at Veterinary Emergency Group

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

First time I have been here and it was for such an awful circumstance but the compassion and care my dog and I received was above and beyond. I can’t count how many times I was asked if I wanted a beverage. First a lot is done with you with your pet in front of you, so there’s no surprises with what’s going. Cost were reasonable and very transparent services. My primary vet recommended them and I’m so thankful for their help today.

I just want to thank the VEG team for their quality service. I brought my 16-year old dog in a few nights ago due to a collapse. The team was prompt, professional and it was a nice experience getting to sit with my dog during her treatment. It was a unique experience. I also appreciate having the opportunity to speak with a vet prior to bringing her in. Late night emergency visits are hard and it is nice to get a little bit of medical advice prior to bringing the dog in and knowing when it is vital to bring a dog in. That's what makes this location different than others. I do think it is important to ask ahead of time what expected charges might be (such as an estimate). However, unless you are a pup parent who is going to the ER often it is hard to tell what your dog may or may not need. Either way knowing what to expect is important and asking questions is important. In conclusion, I recommend this facility and hope more facilities will start following in a similar direction. This kind of emergency clinic is what the future of emergency clinics should look like. The vets go above and beyond and I understand it is not easy but very very very very very appreciated from the late-night anxious dog parent standpoint. Thank you so much to the VEG team.

Their staff is amazing and really nice. My dog with parvo was taken there at night and they were the only Emergency near me that took him in. They took care of my dog well. Next morning my dog was happy and had some energy. This place is a little pricey but it makes sense why because their staff puts in a lot of hard work to save the animals and they give them the best medicine. If it wasn’t for their amazing staff my puppy wouldn’t have survived the first night. This place was also really clean unlike most vets. I will recommend this

I was seen immediately when I came to VEG. The front desk person was efficient and friendly. The vet treated my nervous dog right away and kind and welcoming. They did a lot to decrease my worry. The waiting room is huge so my reactive dog could stay with me and not get freaked out about other dogs. Also, there are a ton of snacks. This is excellent if you actually have an emergency. It's pricey if you say yes to everything, but you can say no to anything above the absolutely urgent care.

An emergency vet is not a place you hope/plan to be but everyone here made me feel confident that my dog was in good hands. The environment was welcoming and clean from the lobby to the room where the animals are treated. Everyone was so sweet and understanding. I felt like they really cared about the well-being of my pet. Again, ideally wouldn’t have to visit but if you need emergency care, I highly suggest VEG.
