How to Save Money at WAG Animal ER

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I wish I could give WAG Animal ER 10 stars. I absolutely dread having to go to a 24 hour Pet ER not just due to the pricing but how many animal ERs push hard a trying to sell whatever line of cat food they sell. I visited this 5 days after they opened. What a GREAT experience. My 15 year old cat Miracle was making some strange noises, doubling up and I wanted to get him in ASAP. I feared a stroke. WAG was superb from every standpoint. They immediately got him in, told me their recommended tests and I decided to do all of them. The discovered it was massive constipation. They kept him overnight to give him some enemas. What really makes this a place is that Dr. Alex Jurak and every single member of her wonderful staff were so nice, caring and effective. I felt like I was taking him to my regular vet which has the exact same atmosphere. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

We were very lucky to find this ER. The quality of care, expertise, and fair cost was fantastic. As someone in the animal industry, we know when a vet stands above the rest, and this clinic is it. We were traveling in a strange city without our regular resources, and this clinic saved our dog's life! The first er in Poway area we visited gaslight us, saying our dog wasn't "bad enough" to be seen by the vet. We know the signs of early bloat and this clinic took us serious and had her x-rayed and diagnosed in minutes. The Vet, Alexa listened to our concerns with compassion. The care of the techs for her aftercare was exceptional. Don't hesitate to use this vet.

I honestly cannot say enough good things about this clinic. The staff are so welcoming and friendly and you can tell they love animals and they are very passionate about what they do. I brought my cat Athena in because there was blood in her urine. They were able to take us in quickly, diagnose her, and they were very reasonably priced. Every single staff member I encountered was just phenomenal. I really wish they had primary care. I would be taking both of my cats to them in a heartbeat. The facility is beautiful, warm, and has a very calming vibe which I cannot say enough about, especially when you’re bringing your animal there for an emergency. I wish I could give them 10 stars. I know exactly where I will be taking my animals if I ever have another emergency. Best vet experience I’ve ever had.

We brought our dog in for repeat X-rays on his previously broken toe. It didn’t seem to be healing as fast as we had hoped. I saw this new hospital was open and we wanted to have him seen before Christmas. We walked in and it was so welcoming. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. After doing X-rays , Dr. Jurak took time to explain why it wasn’t healing and came up with a great treatment plan going forward. We were pleasantly surprised with the very competitive pricing compared to other ER’s we’ve gone to in the past. So thankful they were open when we needed them and our dog Benny seemed to enjoy the experience as well. I would give more than five stars if I was able. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

There are people who step into your life during the hardest moments and leave a lasting imprint simply through their compassion. Dr. Alexa Jurak and the team at WAG Animal ER were those people for our family. We brought our beloved cat Zoosk in on February 4, facing a situation no pet owner is ever prepared for. From the moment we walked through the doors, I was struck by how clean and thoughtfully cared for the hospital was. There was no harsh clinical feel and none of the typical animal odors — just a calm, organized space that immediately gave us a sense of reassurance. Dr. Jurak met us with both professionalism and genuine warmth. She took the time to thoroughly explain Zoosk’s condition and walked us through every option with honesty and sensitivity, always keeping Zoosk’s quality of life at the center of the conversation. Even in our shock and heartbreak, we never felt rushed or pressured — only supported. When we reached the painful decision to let Zoosk go, Dr. Jurak showed a level of compassion that I will never forget. She hugged me as I cried, sat with our family, and allowed us all the time we needed to say goodbye to a deeply loved member of our family. She helped transform what could have been a sterile, clinical experience into something peaceful and deeply respectful. The memorial necklace Zoosk wore as she was put to sleep is something we will treasure forever, and Dr. Jurak also guided us through the cremation process with care so we didn’t have to carry those logistics in our grief. In one of the most devastating moments of our lives, Zoosk was treated with dignity, tenderness, and love. That is a gift I will always be grateful for. If you ever find yourself needing emergency veterinary care, I cannot recommend WAG Animal ER highly enough. Your pet will be cared for with skill, but just as importantly, with humanity. Thank you, Dr. Jurak, for giving our beloved Zoosk a peaceful and gentle goodbye, and for holding space for our family when we needed it most.Your kindness, compassion and exceptional care will never be forgotten. With my Deepest Gratitude, Abigail Houston
