How to Save Money at Morena Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This review is long over due. My wife and I have been a loyal customers here for almost 2 years now and honestly, I wouldn't trust anyone else to care for my animals. For the past year this place has really grown. It almost feels like the place is packed everytime I come in. The staff extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and Dr. Lindsey is one of my favorite people. She really has a way with animals. I have a dog that doesn't really like to be touched by anyone but my wife and I. But... she loves Dr Lindsey. If youre looking quality pet care, this is the place for you.

Our dog was sick and got extremely worse after being under Dr. Steib’s care. By the end of a week he was in a critical state. Another veterinarian saved him across the border. It’s been almost 3 years now and I’d like to inform others after trying to resolve this with the persons involved. I’ve written essays to Morena Pet Hospital asking just for our money back. Each time, I do not get an answer, just a referral to the legal department. Dr. Steib at first (when she found out our dog was still living) said she wanted this to be a learning experience. She has yet to make right by AT LEAST refunding our monies. I’ve offered to bring my dog down for blood to be taken so her misdiagnosis can be a learning experience. Nothing back. We are just so thankful we still have our dog with us. If we would have listened to Dr. Steib’s advice, he would have been put down and no longer with us. Another vet was able to give him a sonogram and determine what support he needed (within 5 minutes)- 8 days of IVs due to being in critical condition after becoming worse after seeing his own vet at Morena Pet Hospital! It was a horrible ordeal, but now- he’s happy and healthy. There are other places to go to. Once the new owner took over, this just isn’t our same neighborhood veterinarian we’ve used to over 20 years anymore. It’s a money grab with no concern for the animals or their owners. Our dog probably had untreated leptospirosis. The lack of care put him in a critical state that Morena Pet Hospital did not have the capacity to continue caring for our dog, so it was advised to euthanize him. Hope this helps someone make an informed decision when caring for your pet.

Personal was extremely rude. Argued as to whether or not my dogs vaccinations were current and when I said they were they then asked from what Vet as though I was lying. Charged me $55 to remove 6 sutures after a $650 bill for the initial visit. Said it was for "a brief exam". I had expressed my concern about bringing my dog back for suture removal because he is highly reactive in the car and I would remove them myself Basically it was implied they I could not remove them myself. So I brought him back and then they charged me $55. A no-show appointment is $30 and canceled appointment is $30. Could have saved myself and my dog the stress of the trip and done it myself.

We found Morena Pet Hospital through multiple friends that bring their pets here too and we’re so glad we found them. The wonderful staff has been caring for our dog for almost four years now. We still see them after moving 20 minutes away and having another vet right up the street from us. For us, the staff’s experience and dedication is the best! Our dog has had some issues lately that required testing and lots of follow up. The doctors did a really good job explaining the problem and laying out our options. We appreciate the time they take to thoroughly walk us through the situation (twice they’ve called at 6pm on a Friday to make sure we didn’t have to wait the weekend)!! And they genuinely care about the animals they care for.

Dr. Lindsey is hands down the best vet that I have ever worked with. She is kind, knowledgeable, and most of all has a great sense of humor. I cannot recommend Morena Pet hospital enough. The entire staff cared for my cat and gave him the best treatment possible. The prices here are also the best I have encountered in San Diego by far. I would recommend Dr. Lindsey to everyone I know. Thanks for everything you guys do! Shiro was lucky to be treated by you.
