How to Save Money at Mission Valley Pet Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I am incredibly grateful for Mission Valley Pet Clinic! When I was unexpectedly rushed to the hospital due to seizures, I needed a safe place nearby for my dog. Without hesitation, the staff quickly stepped in—making sure I received the care I needed while ensuring my sweet boy was safe and comfortable. Their professionalism and compassion were evident from the very beginning. While I was in the ICU, they went above and beyond to coordinate with my parents, keeping Rocky’s routine consistent so he felt secure and free from anxiety. They provided constant updates, which gave me so much peace of mind during such a stressful time. Especially in a true emergency, I could not be more thankful for the kindness, speed, and dedication of their team. I feel completely confident leaving Rocky in their care. He is happy, well-looked after, and I know he’s in the best hands possible.

We’ve been bringing our two cats and two dogs to Mission Valley Pet Clinic for nearly 10 years, and I honestly can’t say enough good things. The entire team is incredibly attentive and treats our pets as if they were their own. We’ve worked with Dr. Herrera, Dr. Klinger, and Dr. Frank — all of whom are knowledgeable, compassionate, and take the time to explain exam results and treatment options thoroughly. I’ve never once felt pressured into unnecessary procedures or upsold on extras, which says a lot about their integrity. They even went above and beyond during dental procedures and saved my dogs’ teeth for me at my request (yes, I’m obsessed with my animals 😆). One of the things I love most is how easy they make communication. Being able to text the office to schedule appointments or even send a quick photo of a concern is such a relief. The front office staff and techs are always welcoming and helpful — special thanks to Melissa (RVT), Lily, Brianna, Josie, Jessica, and Erica for their kindness and professionalism. Prices are extremely fair for the level of care provided. If you’re just looking for the cheapest option, this might not be the place — but the peace of mind knowing my furry ones are so well cared for is worth every penny. The follow-up care is also outstanding; I always appreciate the check-in calls after a visit to make sure my pets are doing well. We’re so grateful to have such a wonderful team looking after our family.

I just have to sing the praises of MVPC. I think I’ve been going to them since 2017. I have taken both my dogs for regular check ups, vaccinations, teeth cleanings, and emergency visits over the years and while all experiences I’ve had have been high quality, I have a few cherished memories that let me know they really value the animals and their people. Through battling arthritis with Panchito (brown black shepherd mix) over the last couple of years and providing me the tools necessary to make hard decisions, MVPC has been there. They are very good with responding to queries through their pet app, working online prescriptions, and providing alternative resources when needed. While Panchito had to pass over the rainbow bridge, I know I’ll still happily bring his brother Cooper and get the same quality care as always. MVPC sets the bar high and I truly believe they are here for the community. Thank you from my family for the condolences and hope everyone has a great holiday :)

I brought my cat Bo (who’s 6) to Mission Valley Pet Clinic and had a great experience. The entire team was pleasant, kind, and made the visit feel easy from start to finish. Bo got his yearly shots and a nail trim, and I also learned that he’s not actually overweight — just a bigger breed of kitty, which was honestly great news to hear. I would absolutely trust this team with any of my furry friends and definitely recommend them.

Mission Valley Pet Clinic is the absolute best! So grateful to have found this place. They go above and beyond, and they are somehow more affordable than other clinics. Dr. Herrera has been incredible in figuring out my dog’s chronic gut issues. We made more progress with her in a matter of months than we did with other vets over the course of several years. Everyone at this clinic truly cares about your pet and it shows!!
