How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Big shout out to nurse Marci! My dog came in for a librela shot which was supposed to be a short visit but right at the office he peed and I noticed a blood clot. Immediately I was freaking out. Nurse Marci took Bear Bear back to check on him. She was very empathetic and you could tell that she cared. We were able to squeeze him in and do what we needed to do. I had to come back the next day for a urinalysis and found out he had a UTI. Everything was short a short turn around time but the staff was very accommodating. Nurse Marci is an all in one star— she does everything and everything to make sure the pt is well taken care of! Please give her a raise!

My experience with Banfield has been good they take good care of my dogs. When my dog died from age related issues they did an excellent job of making the process was as painless as possible for all concerned at a fair and reasonable price. I also like mention they have a variety of plans to fit most budgets.

** update always good to have our dogs checked out for all of life's journey I made sure to sign up for a monthly medical plan. It's worth it.*** So my little dog had some medical issues and we have a medical plan that we have a subscription payment for. We received the email that said its time for your pet's comprehensive examination. Just in time because we had an issue. So what I liked is that they offered me an outside source price for lab work which would be less than upgrading my plan. Going with a medical plan saves u funds and is so much helpful for your little family member!!! I forgot to mention I told the guy I would wait outside in my car for the "20 minutes". We'll my fault I waited like 1.5 hours before I called. Turns out they called my daughter whose phone had died. Yes parked right in front.Yes they had my number but I blame myself for not calling them sooner.

After going there for over a year without any issues, they didn’t address our concerns during the last visit, we never actually saw the doctor and the assistant just dismissed us. Months later when we had to make another appointment for the same concern, we arrived 11min late after calling them to let them know, knowing they had a 10min grace period but we were told we couldn’t be see for ONE extra minute. The place also smelled really bad that day. Needless to say we will seek care elsewhere.

My dog loves Dr. Rudman and the staff. Before coming to Banfield College (we’ve gone to other locations), my dog would freeze and refuse to go inside the vet. With Banfield College, my dog willingly walks herself right back with a big smile on her face because she just loves the staff. It’s a testament that my dog has had a positive experience with Banfield College. The front desk (Jasmine & Jaelynn) are always very nice and sweet. They made the check in and check out process very easy. Zoey loves Dr. Rudman. She’s great with my dog but she is also very clear and sincere with her plan of care and recommendations. It’s just very reassuring knowing my dog is always in good care with Dr. Rudman and her team. So thank you, Dr. Rudman and staff for the wonderful care. One thing I would like to add for the Banfield manager/higher ups is to invest in a buzz-in door opener. I see the ladies tending/checking in patients and will have to stop what they’re doing to open the door. I just think it’s a bit time consuming if they are doing this for everyone coming through the door. I think it will make in check in/check out process smoother.
