How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
We’re a military family and move every 2-3 years. Finding a vet can be stressful on the pets. The team at this location has been incredible. From urgent visits, to the kindness of understanding when funds are tight, they’ve worked with us to find the best solutions for our cat and bulldog. Dr. King always took extra time to answer questions. Bella is now 11 and needed an eye removal. A local ophthalmologist quoted us at over $5k and we were devastated. Dr. Giles was able to do the procedure at a much more reasonable price and did an outstanding job. The entire team at the front desk (shoutout to Moira) was always helpful, patient, and kind. Bella is doing so well now (we’ve since moved again) and we are definitely missing the staff in San Diego. Thank you for all you do!

I would give 0 stars if I could. I dropped my dog off by their recommendation so they could have time to run all tests and exams they needed on him instead of the 30 min exam where I can be there. The poor guy was terrified. Tell me why I had to keep calling them asking when I can pick him up and finally after 8 hours they told me he’s ready. When I got there they inform me they weren’t able to run any tests because he was so scared. I would have picked him up hours before if they had just told me. I’d rather them admit they can’t examine him then keep him there terrified for hours and then try to charge me for medicine. I told them I don’t want the meds as I don’t want to give them a dime. Everyone just kept saying to me “that’s how it goes sometimes” do not bring your pet to this unprofessional establishment. I’m just really sad for my dog and that I trusted them

Antoinette and Dr. King are phenomenal experience in caring for animals is just beyond compared. They were very tentative and understanding and answered all my questions that I had and my concerns that I had about my pet they took the time to check everything and go over details I felt so relieved knowing that my pet is in good hands is being taken well. Care of the whole team is amazing and outstanding. I wish I can give them more than just five stars. Banfield at Murphy Canyon is great and number one in my book thank you thank you for your service and your time and your kindness.

I have took my dog here for years and staff is kind. However, when it comes to more serious concerns and want tests performed(X-rays, blood work, lab results) please take your pet to an animal hospital that is 24 hour. My pet was diagnosed with a large mass under her jaw that Banfield was not able to detect. When the hospital staff informed me , they were surprised that banfield did not catch this with all the tests done on my pet . Unfortunately, it was untreatable but was supposed to be caught sooner. Banfield is good with basic care but not worth paying insurance for older pets or pets with serious health issues.

I brought my dog in today for a ‘quality of life’ appointment and was turned away because I arrived 12 minutes late. I tried to call and didn’t get an answer. The receptionist wasn’t even at the desk when I got there. I was told the doctor would no longer be able to see my dog since I was more than 10 minutes late. I tried to explain to her that my dog had an accident and also has really bad diarrhea but was still turned away. Keep in mind, this appointment was to see if it’s time to put my dog down as he’s 12 years old, has very little use of his back legs anymore and becoming incontinent. Getting him in and out of the car alone is traumatic let alone the long walk from the car to the building afterwards because he moves so slow. There was no courtesy call or anything saying the appointment would have to be rescheduled. I also asked for a sanitary cut and skin inspection since the groomer can no longer cut him without potentially harming him. I explained this over the phone before the appointment because he’s pretty matted down there. I was told they wouldn’t be able to provide any services for him until Tuesday. Now it’s almost 3am and I’m still cleaning up diarrhea. I pay almost $200 a month for his care and they turned him away when he needed it most. They showed no compassion whatsoever. I’m literally watching my best friend die with no options or advice even on how to help him. I would give negative 10000 stars if I could.
